As far as I can tell, sea otters have a well-refined process for eating crabs: (1) eat the legs first, so it can't run away (2) snap off and eat the claws second, so they won't pinch your face (3) pop off the carapace to eat all the insides and (4) rinse and repeat with new crabs until naptime. A very unique design that I had never seen before, a dual face searchlight that has all of the heads at different levels, despite direction they face. Still displaying a clear indication for CSX Q328, the train hustles through Grand Ledge, MI. as they prepare to stop and work Ensel Yard in Lansing before continuing east.
Storm clouds brake over the Broadacre Farm near Carnation, WA. This historic dairy farm is on the National Register of Historic Places
Six years after they were married, William and Estella Adair bought 110 acres in the Snoqualmie Valley next door to her parents place near the community of Vincent which lies northwest of the current town of Carnation in Kings County Washington. In the early years flood and shifting river channels caused them to abandoned there home and establish a new place on their property to the south. In 1915 they built a farmhouse in the Craftsman style. William set about replacing his temporary structures with more permeant ones. In 1922, Will Adair constructed a hay bam using the new bow-truss roof configuration. He was among the first Snoqualmie Valley dairymen to build such a bam which was designed to maximize the interior volume of the hay loft. Other farmers quickly followed Adair's example and today many barns in the Snoqualmie Valley utilized this design. High on the barn's north end, in bold black letters below the hay door ,were painted the words “Broadacre Farm-1922” This is the first time this name for the farm appears in public Will Adair milked his 55 cows by hand until he retired in 1945.
In the photo the building in front of the barn is the Milkhouse and Milking Parlor. It was built in the late 1940s after peter Sinnenas bought the farm. This complex of four adjoining buildings were altered by Peter’s son Ed over time as milking technology and size of herds changed. The milking parlor was one of the first in valley, and the additions date from the 1970s to 1990s. The complex is attached to and functionally integrated with the 1922 hay bam.
From being a backwater fishing village at the turn of the 20th Century, with mostly bamboo hut dwellings known as “kampong houses,” Singapore now has some of the most modern and unique architecture anywhere in the world. The city state’s commercial success has provided it with the wealth to not only preserve many historical buildings, but also develop some very iconic modern structures, such as the floating Apple Store, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, and the ArtScience Museum, set among lofty skyscrapers.
The contemporary buildings have been developed with a view to enhance Singapore’s reputation as the Garden City, and maximize the tropical vegetation coverage, whether it is on pedestrian bridges or rooftop gardens. This effort dilutes the concrete jungle feel that most urban centers have, and encourages people to walk rather than jump into a car for every little trip.

Maximize The Trip. On January 20, 2022, Amtrak 100 (P42DC, 50th Anniversary, Midnight Blue) brought Amtrak Train 43 (Pennsylvanian)/Norfolk Southern Corp 07T across the Susquehanna River over the Rockville Bridge in Marysville, Pennsylvanian. Both AMTK 100 and 108 had been operating on this route that week, bringing a lot of photographers trackside. Amtrak has added its 50th Anniversary logo to 7 locomotives in its fleet. A visit to the Bridgeview Bed & Breakfast was a great venue to capture the scene.

As you can see, the Style Legacy-Isabella Alves outfit is a great accessory, chiffon sleeves and a matte glossy dress. (There is also a bustier, but I didn't use it.) The beauty of navy blue is maximized. I think the stars and moon, which are also motifs, express the beauty of the night.

The History of the Blomidon Inn (From the website)
On April 1, 1881 , Rufus Burgess purchased for $1,400, the lot on which the Blomidon Inn now stands. In the 1871 census, Burgess was listed as a merchant who owned 80 shares in ships. He soon learned to maximize his profits by building his own ships and operating them until they could be sold. The sales usually occurred in a foreign port such as London, England or perhaps in Scandinavia. Rufus built four tall ships between 1874 and 1880.
Following the Purchase of the land Rufus proceeded to build Perth House. His wife, Georgie’s family, had come from Perth , Scotland . This gave Burgess the opportunity to make a public display of his success and to provide a fine home for his family’s enjoyment. In his mansion, he used teak and mahogany for wainscots, mantels, and staircases. There were marble fireplaces and gold gilt mirrors. A local German artist was invited to paint a ceiling mural of a ship wreck. The house was just as grand on the outside with the Mansard Roof (the same roof style found on Seminary Hall – the oldest building on Acadia University’s campus), the widow’s walk, the iron front gate, the playing court, the sun dial, and the splendid rose gardens on the East side of the house. During his tenure at Perth Place, Rufus would build an additional nineteen tall ships, the Canada , being the most spectacular.
On July 7, 1892 The Morning Herald in Halifax announced that 5000 “delighted” spectators had witnessed the launching at Kingsport of the CANADA , “the largest Vessel Ever Built in the Dominion ( Canada )”. Cox was the master builder and Burgess was the proud owner.
Burgess died on December 22, 1905 at the age of 79. His wife Georgie died in 1911. By 1915, the estate was still not settled. Eastern Trust was ordered to handle the will. On March 9 th , they placed the following ad in The Halifax Herald. The ad cost $7.00

Natural Bridges State Beach, Santa Cruz, CA.
If you're a landscape photographer in the bay area it's practically a requirement to have at least one decent shot of Natural Bridges in your portfolio. After several years of trying I think I finally have one.
For whatever reason it seems like each time I had visited in the past I encountered subpar weather conditions. I did manage to get an interesting shot of a temporary waterfall that formed after a rainstorm on the other side of this beach last year, but the gem of this beach still eluded me. Funny thing is I was not planning on stopping at Natural Bridges beach on this evening. I was originally planning on going farther north to Davenport. It wasn't until I was 30 minutes from my house that I realized I had forgotten my tripod!!
As you can imagine I was pretty pissed at myself. Here I had been waiting all week for my one opportunity to get out and shoot and in my haste I had overlooked a critical piece of gear. So what else could I do... I had to turn around and get it. One hour later I'm back in the same spot where I had made the realization, but still only half way to the beach. Time was running out before sunset, so I knew I had to change my plans. That's when I figured I would give Natural Bridges another try.
Those of you who have shot at this beach before know how frustrating it can be to shoot sunset. Even on this freezing cold evening there were dozens of beachgoers running through my comp, almost as if me and the other 5 photographers directing our cameras at the bridge were invisible.
I got lucky on this shot. I only had to clone out two people who were standing beyond the bridge. I decided to leave the little seagull in the shot. He was all by himself and he was being very cooperative by not moving.
So it's finally done. I have my shot of Natural Bridges. Hope you enjoy it! Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

As individuals with unique talents, personalities, and backgrounds come together in a united cause, progress and success are multiplied, not just added upon. Think of the good that can come in the current crisis and future challenges as we minimize contention and maximize unity.
I know I am going crazy for this minimalism when it comes to the maximum strength?
This stalk is less than 1 cm long and it has four drops on it i.e. two more than the last one. I was thinking it may not be as minimalistic as the last one? :o)
The meaning of minimalism is the meaninglessness and emptiness ….

By the 1650s, the line of battle had developed as a tactic that could take advantage of the broadside armament. This method became the heart of naval warfare during the Age of Sail, with navies adopting their strategies and tactics in order to get the most broadside-on fire. Cannon were mounted on multiple decks to maximize broadside effectiveness. Numbers and caliber differed somewhat with preferred tactics.

My wife was gone all day on Monday, so Woody and I were home alone. He spent most of the day following me around the house trying to maximize his lap time. There was a brief period when the sun was shining and he decided to sit in the window sill and absorb some heat. The lighting was pretty good so I grabbed the camera to get some eye shots. I realized that I could also get a good reflection of Woody in the window. This is not the best eye shot, but it is good lighting on Woody and I really like his light-infused reflection in the window. HWW and HEoM

Since the birth of our daughter one year ago my time trackside has been limited to a a few short hours in the month. With sunny skies finally in the forecast, I stole a couple of hours after work to intercept westbound A411 near Lamont Alberta. With a short train behind the single SD75I, A 411's crew will make it into Edmonton in good time, while I head for home after making the most out of the short time I had on this fall evening.

Just another shot taken with the B+W ND110 from Coronado Island at sunrise. I should note this is 3 different exposures manually blended in CS5 to maximize dynamic range. One for the foreground one for the sky and another for the sunrise. I think this is my best blend so far and I'm getting much more comfortable doing it. Just need more practice, meaning I need to go out and take more shots! I also believe this is an example where blending may be a better choice than using a GND and a reverse GND stacked over a Big Stopper as I wouldn't been able to get that much detail out of the skyline without having the sun blownout, unless I wanted a silhouette of it. Post processing done using a combination of LR3, Nik Software and CS5.
