Update on Max
My poor baby has had a TERRIBLE time again! Things have gotten worse. Whilst the joint infection seems to be responding to the antibiotics, the pressure sore situation has got much worse. As you know from the last update, we had to take Max to the Emegency vet on Bank Holiday monday as the terrible pressue sore, left uncovered and yntreated by our own vets had got infected and the flesh was dying around his dew claw, the emergency vet cleaned it out and dressed it and we had to go back to our own vet yesterday for a dressing change.
The vet we saw yesterday was really suprised that nothing had bee done about it and said it wasn't even mentoined on his notes that he had a pressure sore! He apologised and accepted the responsibility for the infectyion due to lack of care. He did ask why we didn't say about it but as i told him I was just to get Max home and it wasn't until I got him home that I noticed it. As he had just come from the vet, who you are supposed to be able to trust, we felt that if anything needed to be done, they would have done it!!!! I was asked to wait in the waiting room whilst they changed the dressing. He had to DRAG!!!! Max away from me which has NEVER happened before.
I was called in again to go through it all again as the vet just couldn't understand what happenend. Again I had to go to the waiting room.
i was then called in and told that they had to REMOVE!!! the claw and that he would be happy to do it today for me, like he was doing me a favour! I told him how terrible this was as he now needed an op because of the negligence and he agreed. I was so upset and ANGRY that as i was leaving I was crying and accidently reversed into another car!! WONDERFUL. Luckily there was no damage but i had to gi back in to tell the owner. The waiting room was full too, very embarrasing. I was crying buckets by this time, as I can't really handle stress these days with my Fibromyalgia. Well when the vet nurse said "At least he's insured" I lost it and told her "I don't care that he's insured it's not the bloody point, my dog is now going to have to have an op due to the incompetence and negligence of thuis practise and that we had had enough and would be changing vets" That's one way to silence a crowd!
Poor Max had his CLAW, PAD and the the BONE removed to the joint!!!! Because it was a dew claw we were supposed to be grateful. The vet responsible has said that there was no sore when she took off his dressing (OF COURSE) I was going to take a picture and i wish i did now. Anyway they didn't even try to charge us for the op and antibiotics. Simon picked him up, i waited in thecar park as I just couldn't go in. We have changed to the vet we went with for the emergency, who were horrified at what has happened. We won't be going back there again! Max is ok, but very quiet and sad, Ky is depressed too so it's quite a sorry house hold at the mo, but we'll get through it. I am just so angry, i felt to powerless yeterday when they took him away, not a nice feeling
Sorry to rant on xxx
Have a great weekend x
