On Saturday, November 1st, scholars from Robotics, Science Bowl, and MathCounts team got together to practice for the upcoming competitions. Scholars also came to Saturday School to receive extra tutoring.
Dent Middle School's MATHCOUNTS team again emerged victorious from the MATHCOUNTS state competition, held this year at Costal Carolina University. It's the team's third consecutive win. This year's championship team is made up of Jenning Chen, Richard Chen, Sarah Lee and Surabhi Poola. Alternates were Sunny Gupta, Krishna Gorrepati and Nikhila Cheepurupalli. The team will now advance to the 2011 National MATHCOUNTS Competition held May 6 in Washington, D.C.

On Saturday, May 30, 2015, 6th grade MathCounts Team students had a field trip to Niagara Falls. They visited Niagara Falls where you can see, Great Lakes Garden, Maid of the Boarding, Picnic Area, and Luna Island. The next day was rainy and we didnt visit many places but the students enjoyed their two day trip and had a chance to have a great time to spend with their parents.

Nathan Yuen, a renewable energy contract manager with 15 years at Hawaiian Electric, was recognized for his dedication to advancing Hawaii’s next generation of skilled technology workers through his work with the nonprofit Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers Educational Foundation (HSPEEF), which is also Nathan’s choice to receive the HEICF grant. HSPEEF will use the funds for the annual Oahu and state MATHCOUNTS® competitions that promote middle school math achievement. For more than a decade, Nathan has been coordinating the numerous details involved in the MATHCOUNTS events, even using personal vacation time to travel to national planning conferences where coordinators learn ways the math enrichment program can be improved and remain relevant for the students.
