At Casey Elementary School on Camp Casey Jan. 14, students and parents take part in the school's second annual Math Madness workshop, which aimed to build math proficiency by using games and other activities to make the subject enjoyable for youngsters. In one of those activities, for example, competing groups had to use 20 strands of uncooked spaghetti and about a yard of masking tape to create the tallest possible structure that would support a marshmallow for at least 30 seconds without collapsing. - U.S. Army photo by Pfc. This is my first challenge for Project Quilting Season 11. With the theme of math, I immediately thought of paper piecing because of it's precision, order and numbering. I found this simple mountain pattern (triangle) and worked it into a pillow cover.

So that's when the rot set in! We never had anything like that when I was doing O level Maths. Small wonder there's a whole generation now incapable of doing even the simplest of sums without a calculator!

A l’occasion de sa venue le vendredi 25 septembre 2015 au Forum des mathématiques vivantes, une formation organisée à Lyon dans le cadre du Plan National de Formation et mise en œuvre par la Commission Française pour l’Enseignement des mathématiques (CFEM), Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, ministre de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, a tenu à saluer la mise en place dès cette rentrée des engagements de la Stratégie Mathématiques, qu’elle avait annoncée le 4 décembre 2014.
L’objectif de cette stratégie d’une ampleur inédite est d’améliorer le niveau des élèves en mathématiques à travers des programmes actualisés, une formation des enseignants renforcée et une image des mathématiques rénovée pour donner le goût de cette matière aux élèves.

in fifth grade, i won a state math award. i also had to take the PSAT that year, that sucked. in middle school, i was one of those kids who had to be shuttled to the high school for math courses. i pretty much kicked the math sections' ass on the ACT then got a perfect score on the IL Prairie State (granted the Prairie State exam is a JOKE. Ex: "Billy has 2 dollars in quarters. He buys gum for 50 cents. How many quarters does he have left?" AND THEY LET YOU USE A CALCULATOR. yet, some people still didn't meet "state expectations". what in the world?!?)
moral of the story: i have always hated math, yet it's always been my best subject. that's what i like to call irony.
