In Meany Hall, we stumbled on one of the activities of Math Day, an annual event for 1,200 high school students. The event aims to demonstrate to students how interesting math is and how it plays a role in so many areas of life. These students were participating in an activity with mathematical games.

One thing you don't always realize, living in the city, is just how fast trains really go when they're crossing the countryside. While in Wildwood, Alberta, this train came along while we wandered the townsite. Right after I shot this, I felt an instinctive urge to back away from it, even though I was well outside the barrier arm. See, while the train rushed and rumbled and clanked over the crossing, my subconscious started doing some rough math and physics on the subject of multi-tonne trains travelling east at about 100 km/h. While I don't know if my subconscious came to any conclusive numbers, they were clearly intimidating enough to make my body react.
At Casey Elementary School on Camp Casey Jan. 14, students and parents take part in the school's second annual Math Madness workshop, which aimed to build math proficiency by using games and other activities to make the subject enjoyable for youngsters. In one of those activities, for example, competing groups had to use 20 strands of uncooked spaghetti and about a yard of masking tape to create the tallest possible structure that would support a marshmallow for at least 30 seconds without collapsing. - U.S. Army photo by Pfc. One of our math homework was to play around with this application call Geogebra, and come up with something interesting to show the class. Geogrebra is like a math/graph drawing application, and apparently it can do all sort of funky sine/cosine graphs, and other geometry stuff. The problem is technology is not really my thing, so of course I couldn't build these complex formula and graphs blah blah blah. Instead, I accidentally discover this thing call Tracer that shows where my cursor has been, and with a bit of artistic and mathematic skills...Voila!
