i'm in singapore now, which explains why i haven't been uploading so much... my grandparents don't have internet at their house and what access i get at work is limited because i'm supposed to be, well, working. i haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately, either, because i'm stuck in the office a lot. anyway, i'll try to get some interesting shots on wednesday (my proper day off) or something... this photograph is of a vintage-ish box of matches my grandparents left lying around the house.
Dedicated to The swirling pit of despair (escape from)
I shot lots of pictures of flaring matches yesterday and they were all pants so I thought about it for a while and had another go today. Thus, in a small way defeating said swirling pit of despair. Shooting backlit smoke is a right/rite of passage for a photographer so I had to do my bit and contribute to the sum total of smoke vortices from flaring matches photographs.

A duo of SKM Trójmiasto EMUs, EN57-1729 and EN57-1759, as an SKM train of the special "S500" line number 55237 from Gdańsk Główny to Gdańsk Stadion Expo, is approaching the Gdańsk Nowe Szkoty passenger stop. Actually, this passenger stop has already been reached, but on the occasion of the modernization of the railway line no. 249, the stop was simply dismantled and the only remnant of it is the scary entrance to the underground pass. As far as I have observed, a similar fate shared other stops on the route (Gdańsk Zaspa Towarowa exists only as a historic platform without commercial purpose and with no access).
This train, like several others, was launched on the occasion of the football match between Lechia Gdańsk and Cracovia Kraków played on August 14, 2021 at Arena Gdańsk (if you're interested: Lechia won 3:0). Three trips before the match to the Arena (and three empty back) and three after the game back from the Arena, after the dusk. It is also worth mentioning that regular SKM Trójmiasto commuter trains have been running for several years from the Gdańsk Śródmieście terminal station located near Biskupia Górka, at Okopowa Street. And these extra ones destined to Gdańsk Stadion Expo have run from the dead-ended tracks at platforms of the Gdańsk Główny station, which are not used on a daily basis.

Duet jednostek SKM Trójmiasto, w postaci EN57-1729 oraz EN57-1759, jako pociąg SKM linii "S500" numer 55237 relacji Gdańsk Główny - Gdańsk Stadion Expo, zbliża się do przystanku osobowego Gdańsk Nowe Szkoty. W zasadzie ten przystanek został już osiągnięty, jednak przy okazji modernizacji linii kolejowej 249 przystanek został po prostu zlikwidowany i jedyną pozostałością po nim jest strasząca metalowa wiata wejścia do przejścia podziemnego. O ile zaobserwowałem, podobny los spotkał inne przystanki na trasie (Gdańsk Zaspa Towarowa istnieje jedynie jako zabytkowy peron bez handlowego znaczenia).
Ten pociąg, podobnie jak kilka innych, uruchomione zostały z okazji rozgrywanego 14 sierpnia 2021 roku na Arena Gdańsk meczu Lechii Gdańsk z Cracovią Kraków (Lechia wygrała 3:0). Trzy przejazdy przed meczem "tam" (oraz trzy służbowe powroty na pusto) oraz trzy "z powrotem" po meczu, już po zapadnięciu zmierzchu. Warto też wspomnieć, że o ile regularne pociągi SKM Trójmiasto kursują od paru lat ze stacji końcowej Gdańsk Śródmieście zlokalizowanej pod Biskupią Górką, przy ul. Okopowej, o tyle te specjalne do peronu nazwanego Gdańsk Stadion Expo kursują z nieużywanych na co dzień peronów podmiejskich stacji Gdańsk Główny.

At first i wanted a match been struck but as i had no one to strike it for me i thought id try a candle below, and then wait for the heat to ignite the match. Turns out the sudden combustion of the match was enough to extinguish the flame from the candle. Maybe just me been silly but i thought that was pretty COOL :-)

There is something quite fascinating about flames, they are a beautiful almost living entity and they are so fun to capture in a shot as they are always unique and different.
Check the exif details if you want to know shutter speed, aperture etc.

Cm não pude ir para o encontrinho em Sampa , fiquei inventando arte em casa. Nunca mais tinha feito um Mix'n Match e curti o resultado. Não tá assim tãaaao elaborado, mas ficou fofinho e discreto.
Usei o Eletro Night (sand Anita) (obrigada de novo, MH!), Canto dos Pássaros (Impala) e essa película q eu não me lembro mais onde comprei.

Had this floating around for a while it was created to celebrate the coronation in 1937. As you can see it was well used by my Grandfather, the matches inside I think are older than me, my grandfather died before I was born and this sat in a draw until I was "old enough" to have it. It has no monetary value.
A friend of mine said this train reminded him of when Amtrak first started running the Illinois Zephyr using a veritable mishmash of equipment. Mind you I wouldn't seeing those ex-Q E's again!
