Travelled to Mountain City, Tennessee for a kid football game. Super small, cute little down. All down their tiny main street are unique scarecrows. It looked liked the people who live there really take Halloween seriously.
This one was my ultimate favorite. It's William Shakespeare. I sweare he almost looks alive! His lips are moist making it look more like a mask.

The local Italian restaurant where I meet up with friends for birthday lunches has a wonderful array of venetian masks adorning the walls. Yesterday I took just a few shots and put my favourites together for a 117 pictures topic.

Part of yet another "Warts and all" piece.
I made this many years ago and had such a stong vision right at the start, which is usually a danger sign.
The whole piece is large and shows the transitition from a clay mask to a textile one.
This textile mask is made by heavily embroidering on to water soluble fabric and then applying jute scrim and enamelled pieces.
I took this photo at Busch Garden's -It was a daily Winner in the Kodak Photo-Quilt and was displayed on the big screen in Times Square for a day. It is one of my favorite becuase it was one of my first set of digital photos - I like getting in close - I did not think a full view of this mask would be a great or have the impact that only a "part" would.

Notice that a couple horses in the photo have on horse masks, a unique visual art form created by Native American artists. Masks were usually used for parades or ceremonies, not for battle, because they limited a horse’s range of vision. The art still thrives today. I got to see some truly outstanding examples of horse masks at a recent exhibition called “A Song for the Horse Nation” at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. Printed on the back of the stereoview is the following text, which is clearly aimed at youngsters:
“Long ago, when the Sioux Indians were wild people, the boys had many games. Some were with the bow and arrow, or wrestling, or swimming, or racing. Sometimes they had fights with mud balls. What would your mother say to this kind of game? One of the queerest sports was a war upon the nests of wild bees. They played the bees were Indian enemies. They painted their faces as their fathers did when ready for the warpath. Then with a warwhoop they rushed at the nest. If the bees stung them they pretended not to care. One of the best games of all was racing. Some of the Indian ponies are very swift. The boys learned to ride them with no saddle but with a blanket thrown over their backs. They did not guide the ponies with reins, but by their legs and the swaying of their bodies.
“In the picture are some grown-up Sioux Indians on their racing ponies. Can you see the feathers they wear? When the Indians were wild people, eagles’ feathers could be worn only by those who had done a certain brave deed. A war bonnet could be worn by a man who had won ten battles. A warrior might wear one with long, trailing plumes if he were a leader the Indians liked to follow. Other braves could wear feathers, but not eagles’ feathers or war bonnets.”

Around here, there was one last institution that still required masks. They recently dropped the requirement.
I've come up with two possibilities:
Option 1. Someone was riding the elevator, realized nobody else was wearing one and immediately took it off - and in their joy, left it here.
Option 2. Someone realized they had grabbed an extra mask and left it in case someone wanted to use it.
In both cases, seems tacky.

4th May 2013 This was a full head latex badger mask I created last spring...... Sadly I got the sizing wrong, and it was way too tight for my head.......
In this photo I'm trying it out, the unpainted and as yet jawless mask. The jaw I'm holding on with my hand......
It was difficult to hold my eyes open, they were being so squashed by the mask.......
My version of Nolan-esque Black Mask.
Roman Sionis: A Gotham crime lord who wears a mask. He has a vendetta against Bruce Wayne for not only bankrupting his family, but indirectly murdering his parents as well.

My first clay mask formed over a rounded river rock using the Carol Zilliacus technique. This mask has a wonderful nose with lots of character, albeit too large for his face! 3"X4"

Found this on the Black Diamond Trail. Just because the elastic on a mask breaks isn't a reason to toss it onto the ground. I took it and threw it in the garbage here at home! This sort of behavior really irks me!

One thing I like very much in Sichuan is the "Changing Mask ance" I love the lively song they play when they changing mask... so fast and at a blink of an eye, they change the mask on their face. All mask are colorful just like these souveneir masks. One of fame of Sichuan and I also like Sichuan food.
Shot was taken at the souveneir corner at the temple that worships Li Ping, the great wiseman who at old time built the dam to divert water to Sichuan by dividing water using structure like fish mouth and digged another river by cutting the rocky mountain using fire to heat and water to cold to accelerate the decaying of rock. All are done by the help of people in the city he was a governor.
This dam lasts and is used till present and the place is one of UNESCO World Heritage.. The place and the mountain is the location of history in the Three Kingdom era too, if I dont remember it wrong.
I really like this place and would like to stay longer, for its lovely and poetic city. I am sad to know this place, the nearest place to earthquake center was severely damaged and schools collpased taking away many children's lives.
The world is wide and the places I once stepped are all special for me.. that once in life I was there and those memories remain lifetime...
