Mask folded from elephanthide paper and painted with Pebeo paints - "Vitrail" and "Fantasy Fusion" -
Vitrail is a translucent paint intended for use on glass, metal and other non-porous surfaces - The Fantasy Fusion paints are intended for non-porous, flat and level surfaces - So naturally I'm using them on three dimensional paper sculpture.

In Princesa St. there's a shop specialized in masks. Some of the are just wonderful!
What a great time having friends who enjoy hanging out and having their pictures taken. It was a blast sharing with some creative people who enjoy just doing what they enjoy doing.

Well, for once I took pictures of a mask in progress. That's an Hannya mask for a nice demon Geisha doll XD
I used wood clay, epoxy paste and an old clay I don't remember the name (I removed its wrapping around 8 years ago ^^')

I would have titled this something like "Masked Portrait," but every portrait I take involves a mask.
Detail from a photo that I took at in museum in Belgium of a sculpture. The mask fits better after putting in the metal for the bridge of the nose & strap adjustments.
They served me well, then came N95 and KN95 and they were bested. I mostly wore them over a hospital issued surgical mask (that provided not enough protection) to provide an additional layer and a better interface between me and the pediatric patients. So far, hospital acquired COVID 0.
Masks is a portrait series dealing on identity.
We hide behind different masks that we use in different contexts.
With social media, identity is no longer solid but a liquid abstraction. Photography has turned into a tool for its fiction. In the times of big data and automatic facial recognition, it's not who you are, it's what you show.
Through the polaroid, the image becomes an object, a link to the real world. Which is pierced and hidden under a simplified but aesthetically constructed mask.
My granddaughter shows her mask at what was left of the Carnival of Venice, 2020, near the beginning of the novel Coronavirus outbreak.
This album is posted on 19 Mar 2020 as an antidote to all the bad news about Covid-19 in Italy, and Venice in particular. The photographs were made at what should have been a high point of Carnival. Unfortunately, one the day before Shrove Tuesday Italy shut down Carnival celebrations, including in Venice.
For my family's part, we arrived as the full force of the outbreak was just beginning to strike Italy. It was our good fortune to be able see and enjoy our planned itinerary with only one or two cancellations, and to arrive back home in good health.
All best wishes for good health go to the Italian people as they deal with the virus.

This is black plastic mask, but these lights made it nearly real looking skin.
62. Body parts.
This is my 100 Pictures project. The idea is to photograph 100 photos for given tittles.
Noh masks (能面 nō-men or 面 omote) all have names. They are carved from blocks of Japanese cypress (檜 "hinoki"), and painted with natural pigments on a neutral base of glue and crunched seashell.
Usually only the shite, the main actor, wears a mask. However, in some cases, the tsure may also wear a mask, particularly in the case of female roles. Noh masks portray female or nonhuman (divine, demonic, or animal) characters. There are also Noh masks to represent youngsters or old men. On the other hand, a Noh actor who wears no mask plays a role of an adult man in his twenties, thirties, or forties. The side player, the waki, wears no mask either.
Several types of masks, in particular those for female roles, are designed so that slight adjustments in the position of the head can express a number of emotions such as fear or sadness due to the variance in lighting and the angle shown towards the audience. With some of the more extravagant masks for deities and monsters, however, it is not always possible to convey emotion. Usually, however, these characters are not frequently called to change emotional expression during the course of the scene, or show emotion through larger body language.

Macro Mondays ~ Keeping it Cool
A gel bead eye mask chilled in the fridge is heavenly on a hot day. It's also great for soothing sinus pressure and headaches and is a whole lot cuter than a frozen bag of peas which could do the same job :):)

This is the shot I was talking about yesterday - as you can see the final frame I chose did not show off the cool window, nevertheless I liked its composition and went for this one.
Continuing my Masque series I am exploring the subject of anonymity and duality the mask provides. At times a mask is so strong it might take over. An Iron Mask is for me associated with the famous novel and skeletons in the closet of the notorious novelty.

Mask of strength, gives the user the ability to increase up to 5 times based on subject strength.

an engineer in charge in the extraction, thought it was time to try a new tool to facilitate the extraction of minerals with less expenditure of time, for that I do some work in conjunction with a maker of masks to create a mask that could increase physical ability of the user, only one of these reduced the work they could exercise up to three miners.
the result was successful, however using the mask requires prior training to adapt to excess power.
