Sirloin steak marinated in garlic and rosemary, mashed potatoes and little cakes made with zucchini, yellow squash and herbs. Delicious!
This was my dinner from the Wedding: Roasted Chicken with Sauteed Onions, Steamed Asparagus, and Mashed Potatoes.
I couldn't eat the potatoes for obvious reasons, :P but the chicken, onions and asparagus were very, very good! ^o^
The other dinner choices were steak (I don't eat red meat) and some sort of eggplant pasta roll (that had a tons of cheese in it) so I went with the chicken, thankfully.
American Civil War cure-all devised by army surgeon James Henry Salisbury, M.D. in 1888: should be eaten three times a day with lots of hot water.
Sounds a bit much to me. This modern recipe is full of good and tasty stuff: sticks to the ribs and can be enjoyed frequently but not perpetually [[;-)

Finally broke down and got a ricer and decided it was too hard to use and then Alex took over and saved the day. The end.
Mashed potatoes from scratch. Am thinking I should just use her recipe because every time I make it something goes wrong (last time...raw chunks of potato. I blame it on me making them at 3 in the morning)
the perfect Thanksgiving plate - roasted green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, Tofurky, gravy - all vegetarian.
Whole Foods Potrero Hill showing off their catered Thanksgiving meal. In the past I've seen shipping containers full of these dishes handed out Thanksgiving morning.

From the menu: Fresh salmon, jerk-grilled with a papaya BBQ sauce then topped with fresh pineapple salsa. Served with broccoli and choice of side.
Lawry's Cut of prime rib, mashed potatoes with gravy, creamed corn and yorkshire pudding at Lawry's the Prime Rib.
I know viewers of my photostream are sick of baked tofu photos, but this was the most satisfying meal I've ever made myself. A homemade, spicy BBQ sauce, homemade mashed potatoes and corn from a tin. Being vegetarian and a Memphis native, I've got real issues with not being able to eat pork BBQ. This meal somewhat lessened those issues. (I've discussed with a fellow vegetarian Memphian, and we decided that BBQ is almost a deal-breaker for Memphis-area vegetarians.)
Never fear. I've got a couple of rolls of film in the works, so this food porn is just to tide my [flickr] self over for a couple of days.
A little dry.
The stuffing was sausage and mushroom. The stuffing and the gravy were both excellent. I knew I shouldn't have ordered the pork shop. There's just no way that it could have lived up to the pork chop at fire.
At the Swedish Yuletide in Boston, a woman ladles (Swedish) meatballs onto plates of mashed potatoes in the cafe called Stora Kaffestugan.
The Yuletide is put on annually by SWEA, the Swedish Women's Educational Association.
Not much variety but a lot of richness. Leftover steak, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach from Ray's, coupled with some sauteed green beans (with shrimp and fatty pork, naturally).
on christmas day at adriana's mother's house, i served a tofurkey in addition to the rest of the food that was prepared.
the tofurkey was not bad, but actually tasted better as a leftover - it had gathered more flavour (perhaps absorbing it from other ingredients) and the outer skin (which had been basted so that it would become quite brittle) had also softened.
as an overall experience, the tofurkey was interesting but still not quite the success one would hope for... though the flavour is not at all bad (it tastes of baked tofu), it lacks an interesting texture - it's still spongy and very consistent and reminds one too much of heavily processed food - there needs to be some irregularity in the texture so that one feels that it is an organice product.
the roasted root vegetables with kale, the smashed potatoes with fennel and winesap apples, the apple dumplings and roasted chestnuts were all good.
hmmmn. we'll see about next year.
I think this is the only healthy meal I had over the holiday! However, I enjoyed family and friends so much!
Got to get back on track tomorrow!
Mr Chiots is off hunting with my dad, hopefully filling our freezer with lots of venison for the year to come. As a result I’ll be eating alone all week. At least I have a ton of leftovers from Thanksgiving, so it’s quick and easy to warm up something while I’m working.
I find the quickest way to warm up dinner is to put it all in a small cast iron skillet and throw it in the toaster oven for 15 minutes. While it’s heating up I can do something else, when it’s done I eat right out of the skillet. The skillet will also keep the food warm for a while in case I’m in the middle of something and can’t eat right away. This works equally well for two, just divide onto plates, or share the skillet – not as romantic as sharing a milkshake.
When I got there i told my wife about the wonderful place I had found.
'But Tatie, you must go by this afternoon and pay,' she said.
'Sure I will,' I said.'We'll both go. And then we'll walk down by the river and along the quais.'
'Let's walk down the rue de Seine and look in all the galleries and in the windows of the shops.'
'Sure. We can walk anywhere and we can stop at some new cafe where we don't know anyone and nobody know us and have a drink.'
'We can have two drinks.'
'Then we can eat somewhere.'
'No, don't forget we have to pay the library.'
'We'll come home and eat here and we'll have a lovely meal and drink Beaune from the co-operative you can see right out of the window there with the price of the Beaune on the window. And afterwards we'll read and then go to bed and make love.'
'And we'll never love anyone else but each other.
'No. Never.'
'What a lovely afternoon and evening. Now we'd better have lunch.'
'I'm very hungry,'I said.'I worked at the cafe on a cafe creme.'
'How did it go, Tatie?'
'I think all right. I hope so. What do we have for lunch?'
'Little radishes, and foie de veau with mashed potatoes and an endive salad. Apple tart.'
'And we're going to have all the books in the world to read and when we go on trips we can take them.'
'Would that be honest?'
'Sure.'
'Does she have Henry James too?'
'Sure.'
'My,' she said.'We're lucky that you found the place.'
'We're always lucky,'I said like a fool I did not knock on wood. There was everywhere in that apartment to knock on too.
My man knows how to operate in a kitchen. Thank God. There have been so many nights where I have been dead tired and Top Ramen and grilled cheese was all I had the energy to whip up. He comes to my rescue. Alot. I love him. ;)
