Kortrijk is a Belgian city and municipality in the Flemish province of West Flanders.
It is the capital and largest city of the judicial and administrative arrondissement of Kortrijk. The wider municipality comprises the city of Kortrijk proper and the villages of Aalbeke, Bellegem, Bissegem, Heule, Kooigem, Marke, and Rollegem. Kortrijk is also part of the cross-border Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai metropolitan area.
The city is on the river Leie, 42 km (26 mi) southwest of Ghent and 25 km (16 mi) northeast of Lille. Mouscron in Wallonia is just south of Kortrijk.
Kortrijk originated from a Gallo-Roman town, Cortoriacum, at a crossroads near the Leie river and two Roman roads. In the Middle Ages, Kortrijk grew significantly thanks to the flax and wool industry with France and England and became one of the biggest and richest cities in Flanders. The city is often referred to as City of Groeninge or City of the Golden Spurs, referring to the Battle of Courtrai or the Battle of the Golden Spurs which took place on 11 July 1302 on the Fields of Groeninge in Kortrijk. In 1820 the Treaty of Kortrijk was signed, laying out the still-current borders between France and Belgium. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, the flax industry flourished and remains important within the Belgian textile industry today.
Kortrijk is the largest city in southern West Flanders, with several hospitals, colleges and a university. Kortrijk was the first city in Belgium with a pedestrian shopping street, the Korte Steenstraat.
Courtrai (Kortrijk en néerlandais, Courtrais en ancien français, Cortryck et Cortrijcke en ancien flamand, est une ville de Belgique située en Région flamande, chef-lieu d'arrondissement en province de Flandre-Occidentale.
La ville de Courtrai est située à une trentaine de kilomètres au nord-est de Lille en France, elle est traversée par la Lys. La ville compte 77 000 habitants. Elle occupe un espace de 80,03 km2. Ville de garnison, Courtrai a connu une histoire mouvementée du Moyen Âge à la Révolution française. La bataille des éperons d’or eut lieu à l’extérieur de ses murs le 11 juillet 1302.
Cité marchande depuis ses origines, manufacturière depuis le xvie siècle, la révolution industrielle en fera une grande capitale industrielle principalement autour des industries textiles et mécaniques. À partir des années 1990 la reconversion vers le secteur tertiaire et la réhabilitation des quartiers sinistrés ont donné un autre visage à la ville.

Zoals jullie wel weten, is lijn 75 tussen Moeskroen – Kortrijk bij wijze van spreken mijn achtertuin. Ik ga er regelmatig eens gaan loeren, vaak wanneer er wel eens een leuke (goederen)trein op de planning staat. Er gaat geen week voorbij waarbij ik eens niet naar dit stukje spoorlijn in West-Vlaanderen ging kijken. Zo ook tijdens de week van 17 juli. Toen stond ik ‘s morgens vroeg op en ging ik met de auto tot Marke, waar een grote vijver gelegen is nabij een industrieterrein. Op de foto kan u tevens zien dat de hardwerkende boer hiervan profiteerde en zodoende water oppompte om zijn gewassen van de nodige vochtigheid te voorzien. Of dit eigenlijk allemaal wel legaal was, laat ik links liggen. ;-) De boer had er niet beter op gevonden een waterleiding onder (!) het spoor te creëren. Hoe hij/zij hierin geslaagd is, weet ik niet… Daarvoor moet je al een stukje ingenieur zijn.
Rond 5:00 stond ik op om op mijn gemak te ontbijten en richting Marke en Lauwe te vertrekken. Ik wou namelijk de PAM-buizentrein van SNCF-Fret fotograferen die mij maar blijft ontlopen, althans de beladen set. De lege buizentrein heb ik al ontelbare keren op foto gezet. Helaas is het me de 17e juli voor de 35e (en ik zal er niet ver naast zitten) keer weer mislukt. De buizentrein kwam niet opdagen en later op die dag werd het rijpad uiteindelijk afgeschaft. Tot mijn grote spijt heb ik tot op vandaag deze trein nog steeds niet. Deze trein zou namelijk per 1 januari naar Lineas verhuizen, volgens de geruchten… Gelukkig had ik nog enkele andere treinen in het ochtendzonnetje, waaronder deze ledige rit naar Kortrijk.
Kortrijk station heeft ‘s morgens redelijk veel te bieden voor de werkende mens. P-treinen naar alle Brussel en Schaarbeek zorgen ervoor dat schoolgaanden en werkmensen tijdig op hun bestemming geraken, ook al loopt dat soms eens mank. Vroeger had Kortrijk zelfs een stoptrein rijden die verzekerd werd door MW41’ers van Gent. Dit is sinds een klein jaar verleden tijd geworden. Nu wordt deze dienst per MS08 gereden tot en met Zottegem, alwaar de reizigers gebruik kunnen maken van de S52 tussen Geraardsbergen en Gent-Sint-Pieters. De twee P-treinen (E7008 en E7009) uit Poperinge richting Schaarbeek rijden gelukkig nog steeds per 18+M4. Er werd namelijk gecommuniceerd dat het 2 jaar geleden tijdens de jaarwissel zou veranderen, daar er steeds een rangeerder nodig is in Poperinge om de HLE 18 om te zetten. Ook treinen gereden door een T18 met M5’en zijn geen rariteit in Kortrijk. Zelfs enkele treinen worden nog gereden door een T21+M4. Dit is volgens mij de laatste InterCity naar Leuven die ‘s avonds rond 19u à 20u vertrekt uit Kortrijk. Ook enkele P-treinen ‘s ochtends en ‘s avonds worden nog door een T21 gereden. Dit doet me denken aan de tijden dat er nog een InterCity Mechelen – Kortrijk reed, met dezelfde samenstelling…
Tenslotte vertrekt er ‘s morgens nog een InterCity naar… Charleroi-Zuid! Slechts enkele Kortrijkenaars nemen deze trein die meteen richting Moeskroen, Doornik, Saint-Ghislain, Bergen en Charleroi rijdt. Het meeste volk weet deze trein te vinden in het station van Moeskroen en Doornik. In Kortrijk staat er nomaliter geen MS96 ter beschikking om deze trein te verzekeren, waardoor er een stel ledig uit Mons moet komen. Deze rit kon ik net goed met de zon fotograferen. Ze was namelijk net hoog genoeg om geen schaduw op de sporen te creëren. Na deze passage brak een periode van ijzige stilte aan…
De 487 nadert het station van Kortrijk na een ledige rit uit Mons en passeert in Marke.

I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.
I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.
By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!
