â–¶ "No Kings protests took place on October 18, 2025, as part of a series of demonstrations taking place largely in the United States against Donald Trump's policies and actions during his second presidency. The demonstrations, which followed the June 2025 No Kings protests, took place in some 2,700 locations across the country, including the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York City, [and Atlanta].

Approximately 200 organizations collaborated to coordinate the October protests, which drew nearly 7 million participants nationwide, marking it as one of the largest single-day demonstrations in American history."

10/52 {Seasons 2019} My Diary

March has a special atmosphere

GB Class 08 No.08934 shunting ballast wagons at Whitemoor on 9th June 2021.

D6817 (37521) and D6851 (37667) cross the border into Wales working the 1Z24 1539 Crewe - Bristol East Depot.

There's nothing like a sunny day at the beach, I sat down in the sand and let this group of Marbled Godwits 'march' past me as they went to the water!

Of course, they all kept an eye on me as they quickly went by!

Class 67 No. 67025 heads the 1W93 Cardiff to Holyhead service seen passing through Llanvihangel north of Abergavenny.

In this post I told the story about my last minute pilgrimage to Montana Rail Link on the cusp of its flag lowering: flic.kr/p/2nLhAy6

So continuing with the series featuring one photo of each train in chronological trip order here is the tenth train of the trip and the fourth one of Day 3.

After that nice bonus LM on Mullan and then making it back to nab the last SD45 leading a long train up the 13th Sub we decided to call it a day and start back toward Bozeman to our room and dinner. The 840 was going to be heading to Townsend to work but with the smoky haze we knew we'd lose the light quick so just headed out. While driving east on US 12 we caught up to a manifest that had an NS unit trailing and a pair of BNSF units in the middle and then something we weren't quite sure leading. At first we assumed it was just a really dirty orange BNSF unit but when we finally got alongside it turned out to be another MRL SD70ACe. A quick inquirely revealed this to be a BNSF Pasco to Laurel train, but as to why it had the MRL unit leading was a bit of a mystery.

With some light left I figured it was worth shooting since blue units were why we were here after all and this was an unexpected bonus. I scoped out a spot where the tracks curve due south dropping down Winston Hill about twenty miles east of Helena, but before they got there they pulled into the siding at Winston for a meet.

And this is what they met, an unidentified BNSF loaded coal train (and the third of four non MRL powered trains I'd shoot on the trip) seen here marching up Winston Hill on the 2nd Subdivision near MP 216.4 running in 3x1 DPU configuration. Rising beyond are the Elkhorn Mountains whose highest point is about 9400 ft.

Countless articles have been written about the MRL over the past 35 years of its existence and if you care to learn more download this great set of articles courtesy of Trains Magazine:

I woke up to a wonderful March snow scene today. The snow was wet and heavy, so it stuck to the trees and made for wonderful winter landscapes!

Hello March, you've come in with snow and wind so hopefully you'll warm up as the month passes by and leave us with a bit grass by the time we're welcoming April.

Hope all is well and everyone is staying safe.

March is mad with the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic, so a little snowfall in northern IL doesn't seem to intimidating.

The March to Spalding section of the former GN & GE joint line which closed in 1982 is widely acknowledged as being a short sighted candidate for closure. Congestion caused by freight traffic having to use the ECML at Peterborough illustrates this and rumours of a possible reopening have abounded for years now. In the days when the alternative route was still well used, with March North box in the background, 47141 heads north with a train of tankers running in the path of 6G55 14.10 Royston - Lindsey O.R. May 5th 1981. This loco is better known in its former guise as D1733, the first loco to trial the BR blue livery soon after building in the Summer of 1964.

At Gentoo Island, in the Antarctica Peninsula

On Saturday 1st September 1979, 31 112 was stabled at the Hundred Road end of March depot where it had gone new twenty years earlier as D5530. It spent almost 8 years on the Western Region from 1968 in the Hydraulic coup. It returned to Stratford's allocation in Oct 1976 and eventually lost its gangway doors during overhaul in August 1980.

First of the Spring flowers in my perennial garden :)

Found the negative of this one, so it is now in colour after all. Needed a few scratches removing, but not a bad result - shame it's not a better focused picture. Class 31 No. 31265 shown here was an unusual visitor to March as it was allocated to Old Oak Common. It was working the 17.15 Peterborough - Liverpool Street parcels on September 21st 1979. Withdrawn in the Summer of 1980 it languished at Doncaster Works for over three years until it became 31 430 and is now privately owned and based at Mangapps Farm museum.

I passed out after getting home. Just got up and must post one as promised...Will have to do the rest tomorrow...

Daytrippers at March witness the arrival of the 08.40 Cambridge - Skegness on Sunday 3rd August 1980.

37039 was a March based loco which moved to Scotland in February 1981. It had recently undergone overhaul at Crewe Works and had emerged retaining its bufferbeam skirts and round buffers as well as black headcode boxes. Doncaster Works were turning out 37s in revised condition from late 1979 onwards.

A good time at the seaside was had that day with a party from Fenland 18+ Group I seem to recall.
