Mapping Boston History

200 Seaport Boulevard
No area of Boston has changed more in the last two decades than the Seaport. Growing up in Boston in the '80s and '90s, I can't even remember setting foot in this area. I was away in California for most of the next two decades and when I came back, a city within a city had grown up in South Boston.
One building that has been there through all of the changes is what has been known as the World Trade Center since 1986. Built in 1901 as Commonwealth Pier (the area was once known as the Commonwealth Flats) when the Seaport was basically a mix of mud and water, Commonwealth Pier once was the largest pier building in the world. For decades it sat among a sea of railroad tracks and warehouses that can be seen in a few of the photos here. Commonwealth Pier handled both cargo and passengers and was a key part of the city maritime industry.
Today, the newly christened World Trade Center and its companion Seaport Hotel are part of the high growth district which includes hotels, luxury apartments, the Moakley Courthouse, the ICA, Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, a teeming bar scene and constant cranes moving on the skyline. Although the Seaport has been rightly criticized for its haphazard and random uncontrolled growth, the area is certainly an improvement over the rotting docks of the 1970s.

I really like this map. It's in a useful location (at the point of consumption), and it provides context for people who aren't familiar with the area.
There are several of these maps around the Harvard campus.

This surface made by importing co-ordinates from an external file (Excel) into CATIA V5. The points represent the polynomial coefficients used in a curve-fitting program, and this exercise was done to see if there was a visual connection between the coefficients of the generator curves of the original surface.

* details.html template
Forget the style, correctness & concentrate on the patterns of config, templates and url to code mapping. Its a hack. Most important to me is gettting the thing to work, scrapping it so I can write a better version. Does not mean I have not written a spec though.

architectural space intervention
Multimedia art duo Martin Mayer and Quirin Empl specialize in interior and exterior 3D video mapping - an art form that uses the architecture, shape and conditions of the room to project moving images, light or graphics on abstract surfaces, and thus creating an entirely new atmospheric space.
