Something different from what I normally do, but it was a fun project :)

I was on my way home after my precious, much sought for photographic session at Lake Garlate (see Fire on the water).

The magic of sunrise was finished, by then, so I was driving home without any hope of getting something more to capture. It was then that I saw a castle of shining mist ahead. "It is the meandering river near Airuno!", I thought. So I parked my car and reached the river, which flows near the road. The first rays of the rising sun were heating the air and a beautiful mist was rising from the placid surface of water. As the golden light filtered through the mist I set my tripod and the first bracketing, and began shooting.

It was a magic moment. I was feverishly capturing that thin spell of light and mist, since I knew that it was just a fleeting moment, but I did not feel in a hurry - the water was still, only slighlty perturbed by the vague shape of a duck (or rather a common moorhen?) silently gliding along; the noise from the road was muffled by the mist itself, and I was feeling a deep silence inside me.

This is one of the latest shots of the series: soon after that the mist was completely gone, leaving me musing on the fleeting nature of beauty...

Still playing with that lander base; I liked Mladen's comment about the RCS looking a little like a crop duster so I changed them to small radars for terrian mapping/remote sensing. And focused on suggesting more of a mosquito motif.

A photo is a visual description of something or someone out there. Like map-makers, photographers want to portray what is important to them and therefore make a choice what is in the image and what is not. Therefore the final image will be a simplified version of what is out there based on the photographer's selective criteria. Like a map, viewers can 'read' the resulting image. However, map and image are not the same as what is out there. Fuji X-E2 plus Samyang telephoto (mirror) lens.

We met up with Ben, Abby, Elsie and Rachel early Tuesday evening for an Indian meal to celebrate Abby's birthday. The light as we walked from King's Cross to Granary Square was wonderful, so soft.

I am not particularly centred at the moment - distracted by our house being back on the market, the neighbours having chosen this very moment to knock down their garage, and I'm tired too as I was up earlier than usual to take Max to a hospital appointment and didn't sleep well, because I was to get up early . . . how silly is that?!

I shall do my best to catch up, but this may be over a day or two. I know exactly what Karen (Kleiss) means when she says she's always catching up!

... fire in the sky!

This is a sunrise at the lake Garlate - a remarkable widening of the river Adda, just downstream the lake Como. I has been planning this photographic session for some time - there were still swans in the lake at the time - but for a full legion of reasons I have had to wait the new year :-)

Further downstream the Adda flows and then creates a second, smaller lake (the so-called lake Olginate) - another widening of the valley left by the ancient, enormous glacier originated from many peaks of the Rhaetian Alps, which came to reach the last hills and the northern boundary of the Padana plain.

Soon after having left the lake Olginate, the river meanders lazily heading to the town called Airuno (more or less beyond the backlighted trees on the right in this scene). More about this peaceful spot in other planned posts (I was lucky enough to get some interesting captures there, while on the way home) :-))

A cool mural we found on our last adventure. It looks like a map she is holding hence the title...LOL! This was across the street from a fantastic donut shop on Woodward that has been in business since 1947! I didn't see an artists name, but I thought it was terrific. The detail and color was awesome!
