A westbound BNSF manifest is approaching Mission Inn Ave. in Riverside on a Sunday afternoon, with the usual GE lash-up. The tall palms are called Mexican Fan palms, or officially Washingtonia Robusta, which can grow up to 100 feet tall.

Moments before a cloud completely swallows the light CN train A439 (Proctor Yard to Symington Yard manifest) hustles north thru Munger approaching the Munger Shaw Rd. crossing at MP 14 on CN's North Division Missabe Sub mainline. Modern day CN's designation for this route pays homage to the historic former Duluth, Missabe and Northern Railroad which was incorporated in 1891, ran its first train in 1892 and built into Duluth proper in 1893. In 1938 the road was merged into the Duluth and Iron Range both long owned by US Steel to officially create the legendary Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway.
Passing overhead is MP 18.9 on CN's Rainy Sub, the former Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway mainline. Today the CN uses the two lines as a directional mainline for all their 'core' traffic which is how they refer to their non iron ore related thru trains to and from Canada. All southbound trains (manifest, grain, oil, intermodal etc.) take the Rainy while all northbound counterpartsuse the Missabe for a distance of about 60 miles between Nopeming Jct. on the south and Shelton Jct. on the north. But with both north and southbound ore and limestone trains using this lower line it sees far more traffic than it's counterpart overhead.

Continuing this chase we again see CSXT train M427 (Rigby to Selkirk manifest) westbound on their former Pan Am Railways nee Boston and Maine Worcester mainline. They are are crossing the long causeway at MP WOR 16 (former MP X10) beside the Stillwater River which is an arm of Wachusett Reservoir that was completed in 1905 and necessitated relocation of the railroad and the building of this fill and some stone arch bridges prior to the filling of the reservoir in 1908.
Rising beyond the train poking above the tree tops is the white spire of the 1859 Oakdale United United Methodist Church, the only West Boylston church still in its original building and active on its original site that survived the building of the Wachusett reservoir.
Oakdale was once an important and busy junction where the east west Central Massachusetts line crossed. The construction of the reservoir also led to the elimination of six miles of the Central Mass line east of here to Berlin. The diamond was removed and through traffic on the Central Mass shared the Worcester line to Clinton where a newly constructed route ran east via a high viaduct and tunnel on to a connection with the original Central Mass in West Berlin. However the importance of that route waned and the Central Mass was taken out of service west of here to Rutland in 1938 and a year later was formerly abandoned 24 miles to the west as far as the mill in Wheelwright which would now only be accessed from the west via Northampton. After that date Oakdale ceased to be a junction though to this day the scars on the land still distinctly show where the wye connection was back on the other side of the causeway near the rear of the train.
The train has a nice consist in the form of CSXT 8040 (EMD SD40-2 blt. Jul. 1979 for the SCL with the same number and dressed in family lines paint), CSXT 478 (GE AC4400CW blt. Sep. 2000 and still wearing its as delivered bright future livery) and MEC 3402 (EMD SD40-2 blt. Apr. 1973 as QNSL 254) in Pan Am blue dip.

An eastbound Canadian National manifest train comes into the interlocking and approaches Broad Street crossing at Griffith, Indiana on June 18th, 2023 at 2:45 pm with IC 1011-1004.
IC SD70's #1011 & #1004 were built by EMD in 1995.
On Saturday August 13, 2016, an eastbound Union Pacific manifest led by GEVO 8058 approaches the west end of the big hole at about 4:45 pm.

Norfolk Southern manifest freight train 15T exiting the siding at Vaughn, north of Luray, Virginia after meeting NS 12Z on April 17, 2025.
I saw that this guy was coming west on the NS a day previous via an internet posting, but I figured I was going to be out-of-luck since I was working. So to my surprise I see that he's running west out of Chicagoland as I am getting off work on Wednesday. A trip down to Rochelle netted him there and after meeting an eastbound manifest at Flagg Center, the NS 1073 West running as BNSF train U-NSDNMU blasts through the sag at the west siding switch at Chana, IL.
With a clear run from Hixon, where the van dropped off the conductor, NS 178 is making decent time up the CNO&TP as the manifest passes through Graysville, Tennessee.
When you don't intend to chase a train, it is then the most simplest thing to do.
A brisk walk south a few blocks brings one to the BNSF Forsyth Sub crossing of the Tongue River. This C4 slips through the trusses at track speed with eastbound manifest traffic. A little meditating on the mortal nature of the late great Pacific Extension gives you a renewed appreciation for "boring" GEs on the old NP.

L'Association Genevoise du Musée des Tramways AGMT fondée le 20 janvier 1973 célèbre en 2023 son cinquantième anniversaire.
La première manifestation commémorative est une exposition "Le Tramway" qui se tient dans un cadre industriel vintage à l'Association pour le Patrimoine Industriel API, Rue du Vuache 25, du lundi au vendredi de 10:00 à 18:00 heures du 12 janvier au 21 avril 2023.
On peut y découvrir de nombreux modèles réduits des tramways genevois et des documents d'archive tels que plaques d'arrêt, de destination ou publicitaire, des uniformes, des affiches d'horaires, des plans et registres techniques, des titres de transport, etc.
Depuis septembre 1988, le premier convoi AGMT Be 4/4 67 + Bi 363 est abrité au dépôt TPG du Bachet de Pesay, sur une voie de garage en cul-de-sac au centre d'une boucle et inutilisée par les mouvements de circulation et de remisage des trams en exploitation régulière.
Les autres véhicules ont pu successivement y trouver place suite à l'élimination par les TPG de ses véhicules de service ferroviaires.
La remorque 363 papote avec sa soeur 369. Cette dernière avait quitté Genève en 1971 pour les collections du musée parisien de l'AMTUIR. Ce musée a dû se séparer de la plupart de ses véhicules de provenance suisse. La Bi 369 a ainsi été rapatriée à Genève en 2013 et parquée hors réseau avant de pouvoir accéder au dépôt en mai 2018.
Une restauration dans l'état des années 1930 est envisagée.
Dans son état sur cette photo, elle porte les autocollants self-service qui ont coïncidé le 15 février 1971 avec le service à un agent sur la ligne 12 rendant de facto impossible l'engagement en service commercial des anciens véhicules sans portes verrouillables.

A northbound Manifest (mixed freight) meets a southbound Potash in the siding near Carstairs (!) on the Red Deer Subdivision of the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railroad north of Calgary. The 70 Maximum sign is a highway speed limit in kph.
The rear of westbound NS train 65Q passes the cemetery in Sommerville, Ohio. The ethanol train had a block of manifest freight tacked onto the rear.

NS 15T (Manifest, Allentown PA to Irondale AL) glides over Dovel Hollow in Stanley, Virginia in the midst of a December snow squall. 15T is one of a handful of trains that traverses the former N&W Hagerstown district to Shenandoah each day with most other traffic being directed on the former southern railway. The Bulk of the Hagerstown district is situated directly in the middle of the Shenandoah valley creating a challenging environment for trains that have to tackle steep grades and unfavorable conditions especially on days like today.
