IBM PS/2 E, populated, 4Mb onboard memory plus two 8Mb sticks, but because of the memory addressing limitation of the 486SLC processor only 16Mb of memory could be used, so 4Mb will be "lost", not a big deal.

The mainboard of the control section. This contains the power supply (transformer in the bottom left corner), the analogue to digital converter (40 pin IC) used to monitor the outputs of the analogue subsystems and various control circuits.

This the the system temperature readouts on the front panel of the machine. The CPU temp measures what it says it measures, as does the HDD. The SYS temp is from a sensor placed "in the air" over the mainboard for a "general" temperature report.

Virtually Vogue uses a combination of Xadow Mainboards, Spark Cores, and 3W White LED’s, Pulse Width Modulation Control boards from Adafruit, and lots of batteries.

One of the first computers I messed with as a kid in my dad's computer shop. It's a Zilog Z80 based system, developed and produced in the UK. Sporting solid 5.25" low-density floppy drives, this system had no harddisk, or Winchester Drive as they were called back then. Yep, I'm that old. Notice the sheer amount of metal that went into this - you could wage war with this equipment!

I've been complaining for months about my desktop, KAMAZ, performing

horribly -- raid falling out of synchronization, suspected spontaneous

reboots, etc. It was semi-usable, but untrustworthy.

Yesterday I bought parts to rebuild the pc with intel cpu and

motherboard. Tonight I removed the old MSI motherboard mainboard so

that I could replace it with the new Intel.

Look what I discovered.... A burnt out section of the motherboard. I

mean wow! I cannot understand how you can have physical burning and

destruction of components of a motherboard yet the the digital logic

still works most of the time.

I have no idea what the failure here was. I didn't notice the scorch

until i had removed the case fan, so i can't say for sure there wasn't a

cable or something laying across it. In one of the photos you can the

debris from a scorched, exploded component. In later photos there is

less material visible because it flaked and fell away.

I am not sure what the stainless steel brick labeled "MSI Core Cell" is

however it does appear to have circuit traces running to it. The

scorched component is uncrecognizable, though it does seem to have been

a smallish, flatish rectangle. South of that are two healthy

capacitors, and south of the capacitors, in the shadow appears to be

some sort of voltage regulator component. The presence of the voltage

regulator and the capacitor maybe suggests there was higher voltage

around that section of the board than in most others.

So what's the likeliest story? Spontaneous IC failure? I somehow

shorted out the component? The Power Supply went nuts on one of its

rails and burnt out a component? Isn't it odd that the digital

mainboard managed to keep running at all???

The four front panels are mounted around the mainboard. These plastic plates contain important control elements. On this photo, the drilling plan of the clock front plate is shown.

Notice the controller ports soldered right onto the mainboard. Pretty sweet.

Kundenrezensionen
