I went out and met the mail delivery and ask the lady if I could take pictures of her truck and she agreed.. I started taking pictures before she could get out of the truck.. I didn't want her to change her mind.. LOL!! Happy Truck Thursday, Everybody!!!!!!!!

Photo from the Loudoun Street Pedestrian Mall, a pedestrian only section of Loudoun Street in Old Town Winchester. Winchester is a city in the Shenandoah Valley in northern Virginia, a shopping and dining hub. Print size 8x10 inches.
Located at the base of the Grand Canyon is the Havasupai Indian Reservation. The Supai Village has a population of 208 and the mail is delivered by pack mule, due to it being inaccessible by road. In addition to the Havasupai Indians, four other tribes populate the area including the Hopi, Navajo, Paiute and Hualapai.

Although at the moment the future (parcels) is delivered in a slow moving vehicle...

In the foreground, Mail Carrier 146 on their bicycle in the left foreground is facing south on George Street and waiting for the lights to change before heading off with a large pile of parcels in their front basket. I assume that Mail Carrier 146 works for Australia Post
I was looking east down Bridge Street (as is the mail carrier!), which runs east-west across the northern portion of Sydney's central business district. Although it looks considerably further above, it is only 500m to the far end of the road.
Sydney's first 'permanent' building was constructed on what later became Bridge Street. It was towards the far end of the road as seen above.
The Aboriginal-themed banners seen on both sides of the road are actually Christmas decorations as it was just a couple of weeks before Christmas Day when I took this shot - in seriously baking heat...
NATIONAL POSTAL WORKER DAY. National Postal Worker Day on July 1st recognizes postal workers all across the nation. The day encourages us to show our appreciation. Thank the numerous men and women who work consistently and diligently to deliver all of our mail.
The UK's last Royal Mail railway service ran on 20 September 2024. A train of Class 325 units crosses the Great Ouse viaduct north of Wolverton in the previous month.
Truck Thursday
These little trucks are well used. I know when our mail man is in the neighbourhood, you can hear his truck coming a mile away.
It seems oddly right to post this at present - the booklet in the introduction notes the history of the letters service spanning the reigns of two Queen Elizabeths; Elizabeth I who reigned from 1558 until 1603 and "our own Queen Elizabeth who came to the throne in February 1952" and whose long reign has just ended. This cover indeed shows a portrait of Elizabeth Tudor and a definitive stamp of a design in common use during the late Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
At the time of issue the Post Office was responsible not just for postal services and the Post Office network but also a wide range of telecommunications that had started with telegraph services and had grown to encompass telephony. As the booklet says the latter was on the cusp of great growth thanks to new technology such as an established radio network and the new "micro-wave" system that would culminate in the construction of the GPO Tower in London and similar structures elsewhere. Technology was also being used in postal services, such as in mechanised and automated sorting, an area the GPO was often a leader in thanks to the existance of the Post Office's own research laboratories. Over time this was all broken up with the Post Office counters now separated from Royal Mail and the telecommunications long since privatised.

Description: Unidentified mail contractors pose with sled and dog team for the sepia photograph postcard. Dog sleds transported mail in some areas of the northern United States and the Alaskan Territory during winter months. Contract carriers used these sleds across Alaska from the late nineteenth century into the early 1920s. Isolated for much of the year, remote populations sometimes relied on dog sleds for contact with the outside world. Because weight was a critical factor for the dogs, mail traveling on sleds was usually restricted to first-class pieces unless room was available for newspapers, magazines, and packages. I managed to get hold of a miniature blue pallet from Chep, and together with a model Royal Mail van, put the two together to see the result. The van is a period Chevrolet, not sure of the era, maybe 1930's. Although the model I guess was made more recently than that.....
Taken with a Sony A700 and Vivitar Macro lens.
All my images are processed to look their best on my monitor – they may appear slightly darker/lighter on other screens depending on your display settings.
