The light show displayed across the facade of the iconic Cinderella Castle, the showpiece since 1971, at the Orlando, FL Walt Disney World Resort's "Magic Kingdom" park, included an ever-changing array of LED lights. In the daytime, the elaborate nets of lights of lights were hardly visible, but at night, the castle was a-glow with thousands of ice-cool lights, in shades of purple, pink, pale aqua and ivory white.

Al fin llegó el día tan esperado…el sueño de cualquier niña, o de cualquier mujer con alma de niña en este caso!!: Magic Kingdom. La ciudad de las princesas.
El día no ayudaba mucho, el pronóstico nos tiró las ilusiones abajo con un 60% de probabilidades de lluvia. Pero otro día no podíamos ir…era éste.
En la parada del micro estaba lleno de niños saltando ansiosos por subir. Casi hasta la otra esquina llegaba la cola. Y sí, hoy había horas mágicas.
Magic Kingdom es el parque más grande de todos, y si íbamos a estar paseando por más de doce horas, mejor que esperáramos el otro micro así viajábamos sentados.
Gracias al cielo el otro micro llegó atrás del que iba lleno. Nos sentamos, y…no puedo negar que hubo siestita de por medio. (Recordá esto porque es el ÚLTIMO domingo que me levanto a las 7 de la mañana).
Llegamos. Un universo de gente, corrían de acá para allá. “Si nos perdemos, nos vamos a buscar en el último lugar con toldo que estuvimos” Ok?
Caminamos por esas calles inundadas de globos y brillos de princesas. La calle principal daba al tan soñado castillo de Cenicienta, y a medida que íbamos llegando, la música iba llenando nuestros oídos. Qué pasa ahí?
Una multitud rodeaba el castillo y aplaudía, sonreía, saludaba. Nos abrimos paso entre la gente y vimos un show de baile, canto y luces en el castillo. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Peter Pan, y las princesas con sus respectivos príncipes bailaban de acá para allá.
Pose final y…aplausos!!! Brindaron un show hermoso, fantástico, como sólo Disney sabe hacerlo.
La niña mayor estaba encaprichada con cenar en el castillo de Cenicienta. (Sí, hay un restaurant y sólo se come con reserva). $60 dólares por persona, y cara de perrito mojado de por medio. QUE?? WTF??? COMO QUE ESTÁ COMPLETO? Mis ilusiones cayeron al piso.
Nos subimos al tren que rodea todo Magic Kingdom, que nos llevó hasta la estación de “Frontierland”, el juego había comenzado.
Fuimos a conocer la isla de Tom Sawer, nos llevaron en unas balsas hasta esa isla. Estaba lleno de puentes y fuertes con armas, y pasadizos que no voy a negar que me dieron miedo. ¡¡Es que estaban oscuros!! Sí, pasé de la mano de mi papá y de mi hermana.
Cuando nos aburrimos de pasear por la casa del señor Tom, nos tomamos la balsa de vuelta a Frontierland, y mientras esperábamos a que se haga el turno del Fast-Pass de la montaña rusa de agua, fuimos a ver un show de pájaros.
Entramos como si fuera a un nido, y había todos loros colgando del techo. Sí, esos loros que tenías cuando eras chiquitita, con pilas, y que repetían lo que le hablabas. Empezaron a cantar, bajaron misteriosamente del techo el loro de Aladdín y el loro del Rey León y empezaron a pelearse jaja fue genial. El show estuvo buenísimo, hasta en un momento las paredes que tenían caras talladas empezaron a cantar y mover los ojos.
Después pasamos a volar en la alfombra de Aladdín. Nada del otro mundo, es como las ballenas en el parque de la costa. Pero estaba bueno porque “la alfombra” donde estábamos sentados tenía como un control donde vos controlabas si la alfombra bajaba o subía, y tenías que esquivar un chorro de agua que tiraba un camello que estaba al costado.
Después fuimos a ver un show de osos que cantaban y bailaban en un teatro. Malísimo, aburridísimo, siesta.
Se hizo la hora del desfile, todas las calles de “Adventureland” estaban cortadas, la gente se ubicaba detrás de la soga. Ahí vienen! Y otra vez, Disney brindó un desfile como sólo ellos saben hacerlo. Carros, bailes, cantos, saludos. Todos los personajes, incluídas las princesas por supuesto.
Le siguió la montaña rusa de agua. Yyyy, se veía jodida esa caída. No, no, pero si te sentás en el asiento de atrás no te mojás tanto. Y si te agachás, menos. Bueno está bien, dale dale.
Interminable se me hizo esa montaña rusa. Pensé que era una cagada, que te mojabas un poquito y ya. En un momento se hizo todo oscuro, y no te miento, habremos caído como cuatro segundos. Los más largos de mi vida, y mi panza ya estaba con un vacío terrible. Perdón…y ésa no era la caída que se veía desde afuera. Ahh mamita cuando vino la otra! Estaba más que cagada. Igual no fue tanto, y si me preguntan, no me mojé. Papá salió feliz como un niño con chiche nuevo jaja
Fuimos a almorzar. De repente, todo negro. Lluvia, pilotos, paraguas. La segunda función del desfile terminó antes de lo previsto, las princesas en los carros estaban con paraguas. ¡¡Por fin Mary Poppins usó su paraguas!! Pero no paraba de llover. Llovía, llovía, llovía, como llueve en Baires cuando hace 3 semanas hace un calor insoportable. Y no paraba. Corriendo por debajo de los techos nos metimos en una función de la historia de los presidentes de Estados Unidos. Siestita. Salimos. ¿Seguirá lloviendo? Sí. Fuck. Bueno bueno bueno. Vamos a ese otro lugar que tiene techito.
Fuimos a la mansión embrujada. Era un trencito que te llevaba por una mansión que estaba embrujada, veías a esqueletos bailar y tumbas que se movían. Fantasmas bailaban por todas partes, y de repente cuando el carro pasaba delante de un espejo, veías sentado a un fantasma al lado tuyo. Jajaja fue genial. Es de la peli “Mansión Embrujada” con Eddie Murphy (O como se escriba) no es de terror gente, tranki…
Salimos. ¿Sigue lloviendo? Sí, sigue…bueno vamos a ese otro y si cuando salimos sigue lloviendo vemos que hacemos. Piratas del Caribe fue el que siguió. También era un bote que te llevaba por un laberinto donde te contaba la historia de los piratas del caribe. En un momento apareció Jack Sparrow en muñeco, y puedo jurar que era Jonny Deep en persona de lo bien que estaba hecho.
Decidimos separarnos por unos minutos cuando salimos, mis medias estaban mojadas y tenía frío. Papá se quedó tomando un café en un barcito y nosotros fuimos al hotel en busca de provisiones para la lluvia. Entre ida y vuelta habremos tardado una hora, y ya por suerte cuando volvimos a entrar al parque se había calmado la lluvia mala.
Los juegos estaban volviendo a abrir, y nos pudimos subir a un bote que te llevaba tipo Safari por una selva en “Adventureland”. La chica-guía hablaba mucho y se reía raro.
Al fin terminamos con esas dos tierras. Era la hora de “Fantasyland”. Entramos a un lugar que estaba lleno de brillitos y purpurina por todos lados. Nos subimos a un botecito muy coqueto, que nos llevó por un caminito de agua donde había muñecos que cantaban la fucking canción que te ponen en el teléfono cuando te dejan en espera. A ver si la puedo cantar: “Ta na na na na, ta na na na na, ta na na na na, ta na na na na, tananá tananá, tananá, tananá, tanana na na na naaaaaaahhh” bueno, ya. Me rompió la cabeza. En un momento me empezó a dar miedo, porque los muñecos seguían cantando y bailando, con sus caritas tan felices, y sus movimientos repetidos. Rezé para que se terminara rápido.
Papá quiso ir al carrusel. Yo no me opuse, obvio. Y nos subimos al carrusel! Jajaja recordé viejos tiempos, fue lindo. Igual me marié un poco, yo no entiendo como los pibes no vomitan.
Después nos subimos a un carrito que nos iba contando la historia de Blancanieves y los siete enanitos. No pude sacar fotos porque ese carrito era una mierda, se movía para todos lados!!
Y para no cortar con la rutina, fuimos a ver una película 3D de Mickey y la música. No es necesario ni describir como fue, porque fue como las otras. Efectos especiales hasta la manija. En un momento empezaron a aparecer frutas y tortas, y de repente en la sala había un olor a cereza y frutilla que ni te imaginás. Excelente.
Se hicieron las 22. Había nuevamente un desfile. Las luces de todo Magic Kingdom se apagaron, y los carros de Disney empezaron a aparecer. Todos llenos de luces de colores, hasta los trajes. Hadas, mariposas, pavos reales…de todo hubo. Sin dejar de mencionar a todos los personajes de Disney. Ya ni me sorprende ver la capacidad que tienen estos tipos para cumplir con su slogan “Dreams come true” o algo así ahora no me acuerdo como corno se escribe jaja.
Y después de eso, caminamos hasta el castillo de Cenicienta y hubo un show de fuegos artificiales alrededor del castillo. Como te puedo explicar que un show de fuegos artificiales de Disney no es un showcito así nomás que tiran cañitas voladoras y ya. Fue absolutamente mejor que el de Disney Hollywood. Fue terrible, hermoso, espectacular. Cuando digo que no tengo palabras para describir es porque en realidad es así. No las tengo. Fue totalmente asombroso, se me puso la piel de gallina, y tengo que admitir que me emocioné mucho. Obviously, todo grabado.
Fuimos al bote de Peter Pan. Pero no flotaba en el agua!! Este bote iba por el aire, y vos mirabas para abajo y con todos los muñecos te iban contando la historia. Como los demás, pero en vez de mirar a los costados, mirabas para abajo. Muy bueno.
Bueno, insistí mucho che, y fuimos a la historia de Winnie Pooh. Una mierda jajaj era para nenes chiquitos, pero bueno me gusta mucho winnie :$
Pasamos a “Toontown” y conocimos la casa de Minnie, Mickey y del pato Donald. Entramos a la granja de Goofy y nos subimos a su montaña rusa, que obvio, era para chiquitos. Igual, ojaldre porque iba rápidongui ehh jajaja. Llegamos y pedimos otra! Otra! Y como no había nadie en el parque fuimos por la segunda vuelta.
Empezó a lloviznar de nuevo. Ya habíamos entrado en “Tomorrowland”, y nos metimos en el juego de Buzz Lightyear, donde nos subimos a unas naves espaciales que flotaban en el aire y teníamos dos armas para matar a los malos, mientras que cuando le pegábamos juntábamos puntos. La nave espacial también la teníamos que manejar con una palanca. Genial.
Monsters inc le siguió. Entramos a como si fuera un teatro, y enfrente nuestro había una pantalla súper gigante donde estaban los personajes de Monsters inc, que el objetivo del juego era llenar el tanque ese amarillo de la peli, con risas nuestras.
No te puedo contar como hicieron porque no lo sé. Pero los personajes que aparecían en la pantalla hablaban con el público, y no era nada programado. Nos hicieron reír ni te cuento. Imaginate que yo no cazo una en inglés y me cagué de risa. Genial.
Y el último juego…el de Stich. Era una teletransportación de Stich de su planeta marciano, que entró adentro de la sala donde estábamos sentados y nos escupía, nos tocaba y saltaba por todos lados, pero vos no lo veías porque había veces que estaba todo oscuro. Fue genial, igual cuando me tocó el hombro me asusté jaja
Chau Disney…ojalá en otro momento de mi vida nos volvamos a cruzar. Nos quedaron pendientes montañas rusas, que cuando vuelva no me las voy a perder.

With the permission of the people in charge of the property I was allowed to go through and photograph it before it is lost for all time. Most of these photos are either close up with a flash or I painted with my flashlight while the camera was on a tripod. There are disco balls, sarcophagi, a theater and a steam punk elevator. I had never been there before and it was interesting to go from room to room and have no idea what I would see next.

This Magic Carpet Monday shot is a picture I have been after for almost two years. It's taken me so long to get a picture I am happy with because, for one, the carpet moves really fast in this extremely dark scene, and the second reason is that I have a phobia of ISOs over 800. Lol.
