I had a bit of luck with this shot. The dark cloud level was such that it looked as if the gap was custom made for the 2 trees! There was a Beautiful orange glow over the vale of York.

Hartshead Travel was only a fleeting player in Greater Manchester local bus operation as I recall. I don't remember the precise details of their 213 service, other than that it went to Carrbrook from Ashton, as can be surmised from the photo - and was obviously nothing to do with the erstwhile Mayne's service of the same number. I'm also not sure whether or not the driver was pleased to be being photographed.

Pemberton would also go on to acquire the modest coaching business of fellow Mossley operator, Thomas Williams, running things from the same small yard on Manchester Road in the town. This Made to Measure-bodied Mercedes also came to Hartshead from that same operator.

K25WND was a Mercedes 609D / Made to Measure B24F purchased new by the Birmingham Coach Company in 1992 for competitive services in South Birmingham. They only lasted about two years before the complete batch was sold to Arriva The Shires. It then passed to Collin's of Benfleet before joining Key Coaches. This rare shot shows it in acquired condition before entering service.

AJI 8353 was a Made to Measure bodied (converted?) Mercedes Benz 709D and was originally K667 NGB. It appears to have lasted in the Marbill fleet until early 2002.

Williams of Porthmadog

New to Walsh (JP Travel), Alkrington, Manchester

Williams seem to have been a hoarding operator who were reluctant to get rid of withdrawn stock. Although still displaying a board for a school service, this may have already been out of use by August 2004, despite having only been purchased a couple of years previously. It is probably still here and can certainly be seen on Google Streetview in this exact spot but with even more vehicles dumped in front of it.
