Printemps et sa couleur verte omniprésente.. et si on se penchait sur ce qui n'est pas vert dans cette belle saison ?

another profile pic, on a slightly colder day that warranted a ruffled crown and other puffery

not the sharpest firefly photo i took that day, but my favorite comp - especially like the soft, melted look of everything - pretty much straight out of the camera, apart from slightly toning down the yellows

A wet feather on rain soaked sandy beaches. Autumn has arrived in timely fashion

too many flies

more specifically, too many species of flies and too little time on my part to attempt a proper identification

update: iNaturalist is 96.7% sure that this is of the genus Scathophaga

I tried to mimic a famous Ansel Adams photo in macro mode.

not 100% certain on the identification, but there aren't many choices for this type of antenna structure

it's in the family of toe-winged beetles, which is an intriguing name but not necessarily descriptive, so far as i could tell

Want to use this picture in your *research paper* or *academic work*? Let me know!

seems like there are always flies around, and many of them don't get bothered by a lens encroaching upon their space and will just stand there, letting me snap off a series of fotos while playing around w/ compositions & settings and such

Bold and brilliant, these Scarlet Monkeyflowers (Diplacus puniceus) burn like twin torches among the chaparral. Native to Southern California, this species thrives in dry, rocky places where few others dare to bloom. Their fiery red petals and golden throats are more than eye-catching—they’re beacons for hummingbirds, who rely on their nectar. It’s nature’s version of a neon sign that reads: Feast here, pollinate later.

Oh, voll schön - die Bienchen sind total sportlich und trainieren nach einem harten Arbeitstag noch fĂŒr einen Tandemsprung.

Oh, really nice - the bees are very sporty and after a hard day's work they train for a tandem jump.
