Il fiore ha come un miele

che inebria l’aria; un suo vapor che bagna

l’anima d’un oblìo dolce e crudele.

The flower has a sort of a honey

that inebriates the air; a fume of its own that moistens

the soul with a mean and sweet oblivion.

(Giovanni Pascoli- The Foxglove)

Tiny spider about 2mm diameter sitting in the centre of its orb-web waiting for prey. When it sets itself up to catch prey, it stretches its 4 front legs forward on the web strands. Then it pulls back slightly, to tension the web, in order to feel vibrations as a potential meal catches in the sticky strands.

The theme is CHIP, they said.

My mind immediately thought "potato chip" however that seemed too obvious so I thought more widely. That evening we were about to eat some Toblerone chocolate and when cutting off a section of it, I noticed a tiny chip of chocolate lying there on the paper towel. I raced to get the camera before the chip disappeared into someone's mouth, although it was very tiny.

I'm quite fond of this macro shot because my angle of placement of the light has made the dent-pattern in the piece of paper towel look almost like moon craters.

These challenges are such fun, aren't they? - and, yes, I ate the chocolate chip (yum).

i see a number of these flies hanging out in the shade to beat the heat

this one found a nice little spot of its own, watching the world go by in a blur
