Besides the 'convenience stores', vending machines were our second great means of nourishment. The physionotrace was a mechanical instrument invented by Gilles-Louis Chrétien in 1784. It was used to trace a profile portrait and using a pantograph reduce it onto a copper plate for engraving. Multiple prints could then be made of the portrait.

Caught in a light snowfall, this decaying beast of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) represents a fascinating era of experimental industrial engineering. This is a rail-mounted jet-engine snow blower, a machine designed to clear railway points and tracks not by shoveling, but by blasting them with the high-velocity, high-heat exhaust of a fighter jet engine.
These machines typically utilized a Klimov VK-1 jet engine (the same engine used in the MiG-15 and MiG-17 fighters) mounted on a heavy-duty rail chassis. The yellow tank behind the engine cabin housed the massive amounts of kerosene/fuel required to keep the turbine spinning. While incredibly effective at melting ice instantly, they were notoriously loud and expensive to operate, leading to their eventual abandonment in favor of more traditional rotary plows.
📜 History & Information
Origin: Developed during the Cold War era (primarily the 1960s and 70s), these "thermal" snow clearers were common in the Eastern Bloc, including Hungary and the USSR.
The Engine: Most models used retired Soviet military engines. The Klimov VK-1 was favored for its simplicity and reliability.
Function: The jet nozzle at the front could be angled to blast snow off the tracks or melt ice out of frozen switches (points) that would otherwise jam.
The Location: The Istvántelek Railway Workshop is one of Budapest's most famous "urban exploration" spots. Known as the Red Star Train Graveyard, it houses over 100 years of locomotive history, including rare steam engines and pre-WWII carriages, slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Status (2017): At the time of this discovery, the vehicle sat outdoors near the "Big Hall," rusted and non-functional, serving as a relic of Hungary's industrial past.

Ajax milling machine: as bought, ready for restoration.This would originally have been a horizontal mill, but a previous owner converted it to vertical (and added a power feed to the table). Not elegant to look at, but a rock solid conversion.
Bulroc drill tubes are produced from high quality seamless pipe. Thread protectors are fitted to both pin and box ends of all Bulroc drill tubes that are finished with a protective surface coating. Bulroc also produce Combined Cased Drill Tubes which are required when drilling large diameter holes with relatively small diameter drill tubes, using air as a flushing medium.

I work at the Australian Technology Park. It has been converted from old Railway workshops, and there are many artefacts from its former use around.
Very high tech. The lots of fish come along the conveyor belt and stop under the board which gives the species, weight and boat that caught them. Then, the price begins to tick down and the bidders (right) each have a TV remote control control thingy which they click when the price gets down to a price they want to buy at. So it's a game of risking paying too much or let someone else buy it before you. Then the conveyor moves the lot along to a machine which spits out a barcode of who the buyer is and someone spades some ice on to the box.
