The Moss Landing public marina and the natural gas powered electricity generation plant located in Moss Landing, CA at the midpoint of Monterey Bay. Its large stacks are landmarks, visible throughout the Monterey Bay Area. The plant is owned and operated by Houston-based Dynegy and currently has a generation capacity of 1020 MW (net) from its two combined cycle generation units.[3] It was once the largest power plant in the state of California, with a generation capacity of 2560 MW, before its two large supercritical steam units were taken offline. It is to be the site of a new battery storage power station for grid battery storage of over 567MW / 2,270MWh of power, potentially the world's largest when completed.

Mosses and lychen on a piece of bark which I found encased in ice while hiking. Once home I put the bark on top of pebbles in a glass container and filled it with water. It has been some four days since I did this and the mosses are turning a lighter green and growing ever so slightly every day.

Many thanks for your visit, most appreciated.

The original for my previous post! I'm intrigued now - I thought this was moss, but have had 2 contacts now calling it Lichen, so perhaps someone could inform me which it is and why? please....

challenge Flickr group 'Macro Mondays', theme: 'Into the Woods'

Into the Woods I went, alas this wood was dense and dark, wet and muddy (my shoes and trousers too) and the most interesting things were on the ground (forcing me to do the same) ....

On top of all that my dog did run away, it took more than an hour before I found him again: he was waiting by my car ! ;-)

Back home I could delete nearly all photos as they were too busy, had no contrast, had a too small DoF, etc.

But I was happy to see some nice ones too ! These were taken in a glade -open space in the wood- where some fallen trees were covered with moss.

photo is from quite a while back, but i’m just craving these colors today…

Some sprouting moss from a plant pot in my greenhouse was sprayed with a little water and set up using strong sunshine as backlight. I played around with a variety of compositions, but I wasn't very satisfied with any of them. Then I thought to try using my Raynox DCR-250 attached to the front of my macro lens - this was taken as a 17-shot focus stack of the wet moss, focusing on one of the reproductive structures that contains the spores. The Raynox attachment gives a very shallow dof leaving the body of the damp moss to provide attractive bokeh. Given that the 'head' was 4 mm long, the image spans about 2 cm.

Moss covered forest floor

I wasn't feeling super-inspired today. I did notice mid-afternoon that this little patch of moss on the deck was glowing in the sunlight. I had one of my macro lenses out from yesterday, so I decided to try to capture it. It's not nearly as pretty in this photo as it was in person, but I do like the bokeh, and that spidery shape up near the top of the picture with the shadow body and the mossy "legs."

Clouds roll over a mossy field and mountain in Iceland giving it a mystical look. I saw more moss than ice here. A beautiful country. There's probably 10,000 waterfalls here. This was taken from the road on the South Coast between Reykjavík and Vik. It's called the Ring Road. #Iceland #moss #mountain
