Green Mariah for Julia Kay's Portrait Party!
This may be my favorite of the three. I love the expression here & in general, adore green faces!

While refinishing the floors in a Victorian house in AZ that we'd just bought, we were sleeping in a walk-in closet. Waking up one morning I realized I was looking at the first cardinal I'd ever seen. "Chris, Chris, come here quick!" He'd never seen one either. :) A beat -up old Avon plate I bought at the flea-market.
I finished the grouting. I'm not sure I picked the exact right color of grout (grouter's remorse) but it will have to do. This urn is about 24 inches tall.
This one was donated to the AIDS Foundation for a door prize at their annual ball.

The gluing is done. I have NEVER bled more on a mosaic than I have on this one. I think I went through a whole box of band aids. I'm so happy to have the cutting done so I can heal my hands.
I'm letting it rest and then will finish it out.
I made this shrimp boat for my kids for Christmas. This is a mosaic of the Rhonda Lynn, one of the shrimp boats owned by the father of my son-in-law, who have a shrimping business in Palacios, Tx. The Rhonda Lynn is named after his mother. It took over a month to do, but I'm happy with the results. More importantly, it was very much appreciated at Christmas. :-)
Stained glass, millefiori, Sicis, glazed ceramic, stones on cement board; 21" x 12"
Summer Forest is a fantastical still life based on a view I enjoy each morning with my coffee. The window is my own; the floral focus is the fantasy, made of many tiny millefiori.
When you say Norman Rockwell, you think of Saturday Evening Post or Stockbridge, Massachusetts or Rutland, Vermont, even New York City. But Norman Rockwell who at one time bicycled through the streets of Alhambra, pipe clenched between his teeth and his coattails flying. That was in 1930.
Why was artist Norman Rockwell in Alhambra during that fateful summer of 1930?
The obvious and most important reason is a simple one. Rockwell was there to marry an Alhambra girl, Mary Rhodes Barstow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Barstow.
Mary bore him three sons and the marriage lasted until her death in 1959. She was Rockwell's second wife. His first was a new York socialite that ended in divorce in 1929.
Rockwell loved Alhambra. The weather, the small town atmosphere, the ball games in the park and Main Street itself all gave Rockwell the folksy formula he needed to capture small town America on canvas.
Rockwell often gave away paintings to friends who admired his work. Do you remember his popular "Saying Grace."
It very well could have taken place at that old West Main Street favorite, Leo's Ice Cream parlor.

The mosaic art is part of the downtown Alhambra's Main Street redevelopment program.

I grouted in green grout and now it doesn't look like m&m's anymore. It's happy in my bowling ball garden.

Handmade tiles, shells, and small rocks. Approx. 12 inches in length. Photo taken by the artist on Pensacola Beach.
My paver mural finally found it's home! This swing was installed next to my studio, and it was the perfect place to lay my pavers. Funny how I was so driven to do that mural, all the while not knowing why in the world I was making it. Then to have it all come together for my birthday tomorrow - what a joy! I'm going to enjoy taking breaks here.

This is made with mini vit tiles, iridescent tiles, and tempered glass shards over iridescent paper and grouted in black grout. I love the effect of purple and the fabulous fire of the tempered glass. The mirror will be added.

Floy and I worked on these last week when she came to visit. I have a very special friend who's having a birthday this week. I'm going to plant some pretties in them and give them to her Thursday.
Hand cut, using just hand-tools for glass and mosaics...One of a kind stepping stone, created by me the last weekend of Sept. 2008.
I have to add some small pebble son the tall mushroom at the top of the stem. I need to take a picture of the underside of the cap. I used gray glass. Happy with these.
