Australia has more than 90 species of mistletoe. They are parasitic plants that get their sustenance from the trees they grow on. But contrary to popular belief,
they don't kill the trees. Nor are they poisonous to people or livestock. In fact they play a really important role in biodiversity as they provide food and shelter for many native birds.
Caught in the act: Armistead plants one on Rachel while she preps the whipped cream. Five minutes earlier Armistead placed the mistletoe (brought by Rachel) over the entrance to the kitchen.
This seed began growing on what turned out to be a dead branch.
Have now glue it to a rose ... I know, I know .. but don't have many things it CAN grow on here ... one day I will.

A few years have passed since my brother in law set the ripe mistletoe berries on to this apple tree. One of several good bunches growing in their garden.
