I have always loved this church set in a little valley on the far northeast side of Maui in the village of Kahakuloa and a ways from the more touristy parts of the island. Yesterday my brother and I drove around the island to take pics of this setting. A breeze prevented me from getting those palms into focus with the combined shots, but I like this setting so much that I'm putting it out here anyway.
The 'Amakihi is a widespead nectarivorous honeycreeper.
They feed on nectar predominately from the flowers of âĊhiâa, mÄmane, and native lobelias. Here at Hosmer grove they were feeding on the mamane flowers. Maui Hawaii
I've got about 70 images of Maui that I finally finished editing just a week ago (I visited the island last summer). In honor of that, here's a Maui Postapalooza.
Image made with my Hasselblad 500 C/M.
Maui is the place I go to decompress. To find peace, whatever that may be. New friends, new lovers, beauty, learn new things. Dance, listen to music and others... Maui is not just one thing..... it is many things to many people and that is why it is special to me.
Blue hour yielding to the bright city lights of Kahului and nearby homes as the setting moon casts its reflection on the Pacific Ocean.
Strong trade winds kicked a lot of salt water into the air creating hazy conditions.
Taken from the north shore of Maui, Hawaii.
One exposure.
Sunset on our first night in Maui. The resort was right on the beach with great snorkeling on the sheltered side of the point.
Photo was taken by our daughter.

On the islands of Hawaii, there are various scenes that represent the essence of the entire island. This scene is Maui's example. Those who live there know this place. Those who visit, know the place. And it is often crowded, due to the myriad of weddings that occur here each day. Regardless, I find myself here each time, spending hours, watching the light, meeting people, and capturing scenes. The lines that are made after each wave crashes makes shooting the scene that much more exciting. Hopefully everyone will get a chance to visit Maui, maybe even this very place, to admire nature Maui's way.
