Managed to get out for a bit of a wander today. Beats work, beats Christmas shopping......

I managed to take a walk today, a day a bit 'more "warm" than the previous ones.

I did not have the "official" camera with me because I wanted to be free of weight and photographic obligations.

I wanted to enjoy the walk and I found myself, instead, taking a lot of photos of the fascinating river and the path in winter clothes.

This small nikon compact, now dated, is able to capture the "mood" of the environment, probably better than the other, has no claims in detail, all that immortal is what I needed today- the essence of the river in winter, in its apparent calm, in the dull colors, in the bony trees and in the total absence of living beings of all kinds....

Fabrizio De André - Le acciughe fanno il pallone (Live)

The chosen music has nothing to do with the photo, but is a tribute to De André in the twenty years since his death and a tribute to my father on his birthday ....

Thanks for your recent visits, favorites, comments and invitations, everything is very much appreciated, as always....

I managed to visit the park on Saturday morning before the endless rain started. The so-called woodland garden of the park is one of my favourite areas there and it has many lovely details to discover like the metal owl and hedgehogs which you see in this photo. There is a squirrel too but it didn't fit into the photo. :)

In the comments I add a capture of a huge insect hotel which is also part of that woodland garden, just in case you are looking for inspiration for your own garden and like to think BIG !:)

managed one a little more in the open today first time that i have seen it since 6 days ago

My friend and I managed to capture the comet Neowise last year as it was setting, so we hung out awhile longer and did a little Milk work. In Joshua Tree National Park, with a couple of those namesake Joshuas at the right. An unforgettable evening.

Managed to get a close up of Kiwi before he decided that enough was enough!

Managed to get up close to a family of Canada geese close to the shore of Shearwater Lake on the edge of Wiltshire's Longleat estate.

Managed to get out today as not been with camera for many weekends, what a joy as was dry.

Some way off but pleasure to watch a very small flock for several minutes.

Male greater prairie chickens (Tympanuchus cupido) of the grouse family (Phasianidae) vying for dominance in the mating lek in a managed prairie in south-central Illinois.

Once common on the Great Plains, the population of the greater prairie chicken has sharply declined due to the conversion of natural prairies to agricultural land. With the population still in decline, the species is considered vulnerable. Numerous initiatives are attempting to provide suitable habitat and stimulate population growth. The birds in this shot are from such an initiative in south-central Illinois.

Managed to get one really clear photo of this cat. It was hiding in some heavy shadow.

This came in joint 3rd place in the Planet Earth Animals & Bird Group contest in April 2019.

I didn't manage to take a single shot of Skovtårnet. This photo is stiched together by 5 photos.

That is because the forest tower is located in the middle of Gisselfeld's forests. The experience already starts when you first step onto the 3,2 kilometer long raised footpath, which meanders through the forest, around the trees and over the streams, until the Skovtårnet suddenly fades into view between the trees.

Suddenly you stand in front of a 45 meter high tower.

The iconic architecture of the Forest Tower is inextricably linked to the hourglass shape, which is drawn from a cylindrical shape, where the bottom and top are maximized, while the middle is laced into a so-called hyperboloid shape. This narrowing in the middle of the construction is important for the experience in Forest Tower, as you get very close to three beautiful beech trees, which grow in the middle of the structure.

Managed to snap an image of this classic American car in a local supermarket parking lot recently.

Didn't get a chance to identify it, seems to be a custom rebuild.

Any car buffs out there?

A Chevrolet perhaps?

I managed to get a clear shot after a lengthy approach to this juvenile Coopers Hawk. Lots of branches in front of it so by the time I got a clear shot I was much closer than I wanted and had to take it vertically at 700mm, so this is the entire frame. The bird had been eating a small bird just prior, and you can see some of the feathers on the perch just to the right of the hawk. They are more likely to tolerate your presence if they are eating and if you don't make a direct approach.....He/she was still there when I left but was gone 5 minutes later....

Hello lovely people! (*^‿^*)

Raven and me wanted to take a dancing picture together since the first day we met hahaha ~ (not kidding). Finally we managed to do this and it was so much fun to shoot and to edit this picture. Today it's all about the Engine Room - a Steampunk inspired event that's open from the 20th of September till 20th of October. If you haven't seen it yet, please feel free to check it out - it's definitely worth it! I want to thank all the amazing creators for making this picture and the event possible.

Thank you for your stunning work - and of course a huge thank you to my lovely Raven for decorating the background with me, crafting this amazing hair and posing with me ♡

I hope you enjoy this picture and have a wonderful mid-week!

So we managed to get out out and into North Wales. Night in the tent with pretty spectacular thunderstorms.......which I did manage to sleep through after the first one and my worries of being struck by lightening had abated with tiredness! Woken at 4am for our sunrise walk......I literally could not see the surroundings with darkness and the low visibility - I followed along behind him and torch......I do that a lot!.......But I survived the edges, rocks and ascents.....quite something when you trek back down in the light and realise where you went in the dark!

Managed to get a quick shot of this guy in our local park.

Edited with a large white matte frame.

I managed last night to get out or my first ever Aurora hunt. It was a bit of a shock coming off ISO 100!!! Pretty pleased how it has come out for a first attempt.

I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good...

This uncommon bird managed to sound off while standing on top of a fence (on Friday) in a horse & cattle ranch in CR

Managed to get one with a bit of sun.

As always, your comments and faves are much appreciated.

Back in December of 2015, I managed to find the BEEM S2 113 handling the road train duties. By this time, the 113's 2 decade plus tenure on the road was coming to a close, and it also coincided with the beginning of myself making the drive down to shoot the Beech Mountain when I could find the info on them running.

Unfortunately for my sake, I have many more "subpar" photos, than I do of quality pictures I would add in my trips following the 113's reassignment and relegation to the loadout at Star Bridge. But this day I managed to luck out with a clutch sun pocket to really make this photo pop.

Moving forward to 2019, the 113 has now been strictly on loadout duties for the last 2+ years. In discussions with the mine personnel, 113 is really starting to show it's age which makes it more and more unlikely that we will ever see this unit out on the road again. The distant threat of replacing these alco's have been mentioned in the last couple of years with possibly a pair of SW1200's, but nothing concrete has yet to come from the rumors.

I saw this harvest mouse at the British Wildlife Centre in 2023. Sadly, I haven't managed a visit there in 2024 (yet)

Managed to get a better shot of it today.

I managed a bit of sketching and 1 shot on the Bronica on some HP5+. Felt rubbish from the flu jab and when sun went in I headed home. Had a few hours technical issue to sort out for someone by which time the last few hours were sunny again

I managed to get out before the Super Bowl yesterday for a little pre-game shooting. Here, a male Northern Harrier scans a field for rodents. Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, Missouri

I finally managed to get a photo of a Spiny Assassin Nymph that I am happy with. These guys are kind of hard to photograph. They are very small, dark in coloration, their bodies reflect light, and they are skittish. Photographed in Maryland.

A focus stack of 4 images shot with the camera hand held. Canon 80D, Canon MPE lens, Canon twin flash, Aperture f/11, shutter speed 1/250, ISO 400.

Managed to get this breach from an unusual perspective.

Managed to get down the coast for the sunrise. The tide seemed very high this morning, could not get on to the beach.

Cy looked forward to the coming year. If he did well can caught the attention of recruits again this year, especially those that had encouraged him to go for Captain in the first place, he hoped his future prospects in Pro-Quidditch would only grow.

Whilst hiding in the hedgerow yesterday morning looking out for hares, we noticed a Fallow Buck in the distance. We managed to creep closer along the hedgerow and then this beautiful stag appeared out of the woods. He stayed for a few seconds and then they disappeared back into the woods.

After managing to drag ourselves away from the beach at The Bluff the Famous Flickr Five headed to another seaside location and had a delicious lunch at 'At The Heads' where we dined at another picturesque location on the waters edge.

Pictured here is a combination of Margaret's lunch and Beverley's drink . . . both who kindly refrained so I could take these two shots before they indulged . . . the bright oranges instantly catching my eye!

Managed to get there just as the sun hit the tops of the hills.

Taken beside one of the many rocky areas on the River Massan in Argyll.

Managed to sneak out with the pup for a few minutes last night and catch this shot just as the sun was trying to break throught the clouds. Was kind of playing around and didn't think I;d have much time so I set the camera to 7 exp. at +/- 1/3 stops and converted in Photmatix.

I'm kind of liken the way this one developed

Hope you all have a great weekend ahead of you

Hitting "L" and viewing large works better on this

I managed to make friend out of this little guy in just a few minutes. He would sit on a branch near me, and sing his little heart out. Then he would fly off and come back with flies, and leave them on that branch for me to eat. I guess he thought I wasn't getting enough to eat or something. He never left but only for a minute or two and then suddenly reappear with food for me. He would eat it himself until he was sure I didn't seem to want it. What a neat little guy.

What's really funny is his mate is sitting on another branch nearby, and at first he was doing his dead level best to force her to leave. But after about a half hour or so, he forgot all about her and concentrated on me, how strange is that? So cute...

Alongside the national parks of Andasibe are two community owned and managed reserves - Mitsinjo and V.O.I.M.M.A. (Vondron’olona miaro mitia ala). This photograph was taken on a night walk in the latter, which protects a small area of primary forest with visitor income directly benefitting the local people (the name translates as "local people love the forest").

This property is owned & managed by the National Trust.

The medieval style manor that you see today is not as old as it seems. Before the Messel family lived here, Nymans was a plain Regency style house, probably built around 1839 by a man named George Harrington.

In February 1947, the house at Nymans was damaged in a catastrophic fire. A priceless horticultural library was lost forever and the Messel family were forced to move from their family home, leaving behind a partially burnt out shell.

Although much of the house was lost to the fire in the winter of 1947, surviving rooms include the Garden Hall, Dining Room, Book Room and Library.
