@dailyshoot #ds436: "Make a photograph today that illustrates attraction. Pick whatever definition of the word you'd like".

2001 I got new years wishes "lots of great points of attractivity": a box with a magnet and lots of iron filings.

We collect a magnet from every place we go. Magnets are easy to pack and don't cost as much as some souvenirs. Plus they are great conversation starters and great memories. Now that we have filled up the surface of our refrigerator, we have started covering the metal doors on the kitchen cabinets. 3/15/12

Assignment: We're all collectors of something. Find an interesting way to display and make a photo of a collection today., post it then Tag it with #TP128

I went to the Takis exhibition at Tate Modern today.

Panayiotis Vassilakis, born 1925 (known as Takis) creates sculptures using magnets, lights and electronic components. Many, like this one, move. A member of staff sets the large magnets in motion and the smaller ones respond.

Teeny-weeny super-strong magnets: $5

Jars from industrial supply company online: $5

Glass superglue: $3

Only 13 bucks, but plenty of psychological torture trying to get the stupid little magnets to behave and not jump around and make out with each-other instead of gluing down. I'd recommend bigger magnets so you only have to use one (I used 3 little ones).

My hands are glued to EVERYTHING. There is no furniture in my house without gluey fingerprints.

Liron, My relative member, have a birthday tomorrow!

I added also a small box with sheep magnet.

I decorated the top of the box.

Because who doesn't love a magnet?

My home laptop is almost back to normal after being erased and reinstalled so I should be back soon, assuming I can reload Lightroom successfully... Eep.

Happy Friday all! I'm eating Mediterranean food tonight. Mmm.

I have never liked this and the poor lady looks very uncomfortable with no support for her back.

Some tourist guides and reviews describe this as being located in the Croppies Acre or the Croppy's Acre when it is in fact located in a very small park named the "Croppies Memorial Park" which is located closer the the Sean Heuston Bridge. Some argue that the distinction is not important as they are separate sections of the same park. But having encountered many tourists who failed to locate Anna Livia I believe that it is important to be aware that there are two parks or two distinct separate sections.

The larger park was closed to the public for many years and it was until recently managed by the Office of Public Works. My understanding is that the smaller park was always managed by Dublin City Council but they are now responsible for both parks but opening hours are different as one is open 24 hours every day.

Anna Livia is a bronze monument located in Croppies Memorial Park in Dublin, Ireland. It was formerly located on O'Connell Street.

Designed by the sculptor Éamonn O'Doherty, the monument was commissioned by businessman Michael Smurfit, in memory of his father, for the Dublin Millennium celebrations in 1988.

The monument is a personification of the River Liffey (Abhainn na Life in Irish) which runs through the city. Anna Livia Plurabelle is the name of a character in James Joyce's Finnegans Wake who also embodies the river. In the monument's original location, the river was represented as a young woman sitting on a slope with water flowing past her. Dubliners nicknamed it the Floozie in the Jacuzzi, a nickname that was encouraged by the sculptor.

The official was that the monument was removed from its site on O'Connell Street in 2001 to make room for the Spire of Dublin. However, it is most likely that it was move because it was a magnet for litter and anti-social behaviour. Also, the original structure was badly constructed a it was described by many as “crude” and “provincial”. Worse still it was not nearly as popular as some would have you believe.

In late February 2011, partly reworked and refurbished, the statue was relocated to Croppies Memorial Park next to the Liffey, near Heuston station.

April 24: The other day I stumbled on a short talk at the 2009 TED conference by a climber named Matthew Childs, in which he outlines some principles of rock climbing that can be applied to everyday life. Like: Don't let go! But when you have to--because you find yourself falling--know how to let go. A few others: Hesitation is bad (momentum is good); Have a plan to make it all the way to the top; Maintain focus; Know how to rest; Don't let fear take over; and Strength doesn't ensure success (rather, finesse and balance count for a lot).

Hearing him talk made me a little nostalgic. The last time I went climbing was in November, just before my partner and I went our separate ways. If we hadn't done that, right about now I'd be getting jazzed up about an upcoming trip--since we always did something in May. Alaska a couple of times, and otherwise some nice road trips (last year was the Pacific Northwest). So now I have to scare me up some new climbing partners (a few of the guys on my SAR team climb--we just need to coordinate) and GET OUT THERE. In the meantime, I have these silly magnets on my fridge to remind me that climbing IS out there for me, if I seek it out; and that perseverance, planning, keeping up momentum and focus, knowing when to take a break, and--perhaps especially--knowing how to let go are critical skills in all areas of life.

What you'll need to make your own DIY stamped clay magnets:

Air hardening clay, a rolling pin, various stamps, cookie cutters, magnets and a glue gun, media ink, contour liner.

Take your air hardening clay and roll it out to about 5 mm thick.

Punch out the shape of your magnets using a cookie cutter.

Stamp your design into the clay.

Set aside and leave to dry overnight.

Inking them.

Glue a magnet onto the back of each disc.

You're all finished.
