New York Botanical Garden's annual Holiday Train Show. New This year are landmarks of lower Manhattan - One World Trade Center and a very tiny Oculus

We came across Lower Slaughter just over a year ago as we drove back from a trip to Bath, and immediately fell in love with the place. It is quite simply one of the prettiest villages that I have come across. With its beautiful Cotswold stone cottages, its shallow river, old watermill and low footbridges it reminds me of Bourton on the Water, which lies just over a mile away. The River Eye (seen here) feeds into the River Windrush to the south of Bourton on the Water.

Set in the centre of the Cotswolds, Lower Slaughter is a beautiful village to visit.

I inexplicably shot this in JPEG and converted it in NIK's 'Silver Efex Pro 2' Last day for my free trial. I can do what it does in Lr, but this is one press of a button. The colors in the original were too intense to believe and quite distracting.

Once again, I don't have a clue where this was taken, could have been anywhere between Steamboat Rock and the Palouse Falls....

NJ Transit ALP-45DP no. 4519 is seen leading Montclair-Boonton Line train 1003 under the Freemand Pkwy bridge in Glen Ridge, NJ, also crossing Toneys Brook at the same time. The railroad through here was built by the Newark and Bloomfield Railroad in 1856, later grade-separated and double-tracked by the Morris & Essex Railroad in 1912. Electrification came in 1930 - with the first train operated by Thomas Edison himself - and in 1945 full ownership of the line went to the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western.

Yellowstone National Park

Wyoming, USA

During warmer times, the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River and the canyon where the color of the cliffs provide the logic for the name of the park.

Yellowstone was established as the first U.S. national park during 1872 and covers an area of 3,468 square miles which exceeds the combined area of the states of Rhode Island and Delaware. Most of the park is located in Wyoming, but parts are in Idaho and Montana. The park has abundant wildlife and is a wonder of nature.

Conditions this day were perfect to capture deep autumn colors. Water flow was a bit low. I guess you can't have everything.

Our first stop on our road trip was Lower Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. Last year we went to Upper Antelope Canyon. These slot canyons are amazing. Thousands of years of wind, sand and rain created these canyons. The textures, colors and shapes are just amazing. Compared to the Upper Canyon, this one is much more difficult to manuver through. I wish I could have watched Mike Jones squeezing through some of the tight spots with all his gear!

In August of '97 a flash flood caught tourists in this canyon. Eleven people drowned. Seven were from France, 2 from the U.S., one from England and one from Sweden. I can only imagine how terrifying it must have been.

FGLK 2310 and 2308 (operating for Midcoast Railservice) are seen at Rock Jct shoving a whopping 19 cars of loaded cement back on the Lower Road on March 23, 2023. With the recent news of Dragon Cement preparing to shutter operations at the end of this year, I'm glad I spent some time deviating away from a straight shot back to Halifax to get these guys. The moody weather really sets the tone for what very well may be an extremely dismal future for the Midcoast, providing more business isn't on the horizon.

A burst of sunlight hit the trees just as I took this shot of the Lower Rivelin reservoir from the dam wall.

Rivelin Dams are a pair of water storage reservoirs situated in the upper part of the Rivelin Valley, 5 miles (8 km) west of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. The dams are owned by Yorkshire Water and provide water to 319,000 people as well as compensation water for the River Rivelin. They are named Upper and Lower and fall just within the eastern boundary of the Peak District.
