Quaint little cabin in Lower Stanley, Idaho.

You can't see it in this image but besides the jaw dropping backdrop of the Sawtooths, this cabin overlooks the mighty Salmon River flowing at the base of the hill it sets upon.

Lower Lake, Glendalough, Co Wicklow

a few more impressions

The wind was howling though the canyon. Rain interspersed with small hail plummeted the earth as I braced myself, determined to capture the power of this amazing waterfall. I don't know if I succeeded but the experience was exhilarating.

Lower Elk Lake, the smaller of the two Elk Lakes, is the headwater of the Elk River. Interestingly, the Elk River has five active coal mines and supplies a third of the world's matelurgical coal. While I did see one mine on the drive up the river, I did not feel that the natural beauty of the Elk River had been spoilt in any way. Wrocław

is the historical capital of Silesia and Lower Silesia.

Today, it is the capital of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

The history of the city dates back over a thousand years; at various times, it has been part of the Kingdom of Poland, the Kingdom of Bohemia, the Kingdom of Hungary, the Habsburg Monarchy of Austria, the Kingdom of Prussia and Germany.

Wrocław became part of Poland again in 1945 as part of the Recovered Territories, the result of extensive border changes and expulsions after the Second World War.

Hypopyrrhus pyrohypogaster

(Red-bellied Grackle / Cacique candela)

The red-bellied grackle is endemic to Colombia where it is found in all three Andean ranges at altitudes of 800 to 2,400m (2,600 to 7,900ft) above sea level.

Its natural habitat is tropical forest, but the trees are increasingly being felled for timber and to make way for agriculture, and little virgin forest remains within its range.

H. pyrohypogaster was formerly classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature but in 2012 the threat level was lowered to "vulnerable". This is on the basis that, although its forest habitat remains under pressure, it has been found at some new locations where it was not known before. The total population is now estimated to be in the range 2,500 to 9,999 individuals.

We took my nephew to Yosemite. He and I hiked back to get a better look at lower falls, and on the way back he broke his leg. A beautiful place, with a story. My nephew was ok, and still says this is one of his favorite places!!

Huge September snow bridge. We carefully crossed many avalanche valleys.

Kurobe Gorge is one of the three major valleys in Japan. We went up from Keyakidaira (Zelkova flat) to Kuro-yon-dam (Kurobe No. 4 Dam) in a 30 km valley called the Shimonorouka (Lower corridor) in 3days and 2night.

This dawn photograph was taken three months ago at Lower Seletar Reservoir looking towards Heritage Bridge and beyond.

The scattered clouds were illuminated differently, brightly or in darker shades, above and beyond the Heritage Bridge. The contrasting reflections in the Reservoir provided further interests to the dawn landscape.

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend!

The name of the village derives form the Old English term "slough" meaning "wet land"

The village is built on both banks of the River Eye, a slow-moving stream crossed by two footbridges, which also flows through Upper Slaughter. At the west end of the village there is a 19th-century water mill with an undershot waterwheel and a chimney for additional steam power. There is a ford where the river widens in the village and several small stone footbridges join the two sides of the community. While the mill is built of red brick most of the 16th and 17th century homes in the village use Cotswold limestone and are adorned with mullioned windows and often with other embellishments such as projecting gables.
