It's bitter cold and the area was dumped on by snow yesterday, so what better to do than go out trackside?
I wasn't the only one with that idea, as Sam got Ryan and me on the road with the goal of catching a heavy set in the snow that had just come off the Napier. Once we got to Ashland, we found that they had stopped him at Cullum and were routing trains around him. Great.
While we were waiting, my tablet notified me of a snow shuttle that was coming off the Omaha. When in Ashland...shoot the wye I guess? Well, we were there, and we hadn't gotten anything yet, so that's what we did. He pulled up to here and stopped. Shortly after, a truck pulled up and started to work on the switch. I guess the cold and snow was doing a number on that switch and wasn't letting them cross over onto main 2. And guess what? None of them even said a word to us about being out there. They probably thought we were crazy just by being out in this.
Last time it was this cold, Sam and I were chasing a BN GP30 on a branch line. Now look at us. What happened?

Don't you just love this time of year? The evenings are getting lighter, the days are a teeny tiny bit warmer, the buds are unfolding and stretching the wee leaves, the first bumble bees are buzzing around and the birds are chirping away even at night… ah, spring! ♥

Mix the passion of South America and a hint of Europe and you have Buenos Aires, one of the finest cities in the Americas. From Tango Dances to parades in the streets (and sometimes demonstrations) and a dramatic cemetery - Buenos Aires has it all. Don't miss El Ateneo or Teatro Colón and most definitely add in Caminito in La Boca.
Each time I visit Buenos Aires I fall in love deeper and become more passionate about the city. There is a European charm to the people of Buenos Aires and the energy is just as upbeat as any Capital city you'll visit. Amongst the sophistication, there is a laid-back South American vibe making the city even more appealing for those seeking to escape our uptight world.
Do keep in mind, however, with all the good Buenos Aires has to offer, there is a dark mood at times. Watch your step, know your surroundings and mind your belongings at all times. If you are used to being flashy, don't be.
As I sit and share Buenos Aires with you, my mind wanders to my schedule. When can I trek back to this city I've grown to admire and appreciate? Do I really need a reason to visit Buenos Aires? For me, just being there is enough.

The tower is about 45 metres (148 ft) tall and is completely clad in cut marble. It was commissioned by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last shah of Iran, to mark the 2,500th year of the foundation of the Imperial State of Iran.

The last of my favourite London bridges, though this is not to say there are no other beautiful bridges in London. There are, and I will explore these later down the river, as it were.
Tower Bridge is iconic, and I would venture to say the most photographed bridge in London, day or night. No visit to London is complete without Tower Bridge on your list of things to do. If you are into London Night Photography, be sure to add this bridge to your must photograph list. The views looking westward are indeed brilliant with City Hall, More London Estate, HMS Belfast, London Bridge, the City of London, and last but certainly not least - The Tower of London, in full view.
More than this, there are fantastic spots to photograph Tower Bridge itself. Walk around City Hall, and the More London Estates. There are numerous opportunities for various perspectives. Also, try Butler's Wharf area by the old Design Museum location and St Katherine's Docks on the opposite side of the River Thames. Also, the far north end of the Tower of London (down the steps) is a nice area as well. The north side of Tower Bridge is in full view and you can also include the Tower of London in your photo.
Do plan to spend some time here, and take your time. The distances from one area to the other are not terribly far, but a hike. Additionally, plan to step up, and step down, as there are a few staircases you will need to negotiate. Needless to say, walking from one place to another to capture every possible perspective of the bridge is a good workout. If you're carrying heavy camera equipment like I do, the workout is even better.
If you would like to see the drawbridge in action during the day, it is entirely possible. Try your luck, or to be sure, have a look at the Tower Bridge Exhibition website for the timetable.
Visiting London's bridges is a splendid way to explore the city and to be rewarded with unique views. Throughout this London travel blog, I include Chelsea Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Golden Jubilee Bridges, Waterloo Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge, London Bridge, and the Millennium Bridge. Not including Cannon Street rail bridge, can you name the two bridges in Central London I've omitted? Albert Bridge is indeed missing, but coming soon, so don't include this as one of the two I've missed.
