The City of London is the historic heart of London. This area was already a bustling trading post almost 2000 years ago when it was part of the Roman Empire. Many of the irregular streets still follow the ancient Roman roads. The boundaries of the City also loosely follow the path of the Roman wall that was built here in the 2nd century AD.

Today the City is a mostly commercial district dominated by the stately buildings and skyscrapers that house offices for the finance industry. There are however plenty historical landmarks that were built in an era when the City was still densely populated. The star here is the majestic St. Paul's Cathedral, but there are also noteworthy civil structures such as the Guildhall and the Leadenhall Market. And the Museum of London, which is appropriately located in the oldest part of London, documents the tumultuous history of the city.

Because of its rich history, winding streets and plethora of historical landmarks, The City, or Square Mile, nears the top of the best places to photograph London. You could spend an entire day (or night) in the area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and plan to explore the area with your camera.

One of the most outstanding structures within the compound of Wat Phra Kaew is the Phra Si Rattana Chedi (Sri Lankan style), which enshrines relics of the Buddha.

This main Stupa was erected by King Rama IV in 1855 and regarded as the most sacred in the Royal Chapel. In the hollow interior is a smaller stupas containing sacred Buddha relics. King Rama V had the exterior covered with golden mosaic tiles imported from Italy. This stupa was built in imitation of one of the three stupas at Wat Phra Si Sanphet which was the Royal Chapel in the old capital of Ayutthaya.

The Cristo Rei statue was constructed during a deeply religious period of Portugal's history, by a population who were grateful for avoiding the horrors of the Second World War. This religious outpouring was embraced by the nationalistic dictatorship lead by Salazar and encourage by the church. This important religious significance of the Cristo-Rei Christ Statue has continued through to today and the site is an important pilgrimage destination but most foreign visitors go for the impressive panoramic views over Lisbon.

Helsinki Cathedral (Finnish: Helsingin tuomiokirkko or Suurkirkko, Swedish: Helsingfors domkyrka or Storkyrkan) is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki, located in the centre of Helsinki, Finland. The church was originally built as a tribute to the Grand Duke, Nicholas I, the Tsar of Russia and until the independence of Finland in 1917, it was called St. Nicholas' Church.

Helsinki Lutheran Chathedral is a distinct landmark in the scenery of central Helsinki, with a tall green dome surrounded by four smaller domes, the church was built in 1830–1852, in neoclassical style. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, to form the climax of the whole Senate Square laid out by Engel, surrounded by a number of buildings all designed by him. The building has a Greek-cross plan (i.e. a square central mass and four arms of equal length), and is symmetrical in each of the four cardinal directions, each marked by a colonnade and pediment. Engel had intended to place a further row of columns on the west end to mark the main entrance (opposite the altar at the east end), but this was never realised.
