oil on canvas 50 x 40
This will take place on Saturday, 24 September from 12noon to 2pm at West Ox Arts Gallery in Bampton, OX18 2JH, www.westoxarts.com.
I will show a number of large-scale oil paintings that I painted in plein-air while in an area of stunning woodlands in Walden, Michigan, over the summer. There will also be some iPad drawings created in the woods. America during the summer months, with the heat and sunlight, injects a new kind of excitement into my work. These woods have an important sentimental attachment, and I have sought to paint and draw them with as much dedication as I would a portrait of a friend. I am very excited to be able to show you these paintings.
Andrew will show some of his beautiful traditional pottery, with pieces made specifically for the exhibition. Andrew makes pottery that is functional, so creating beautiful objects to enhance everyday life.
Both Andrew and I strive to make artworks that connect with nature, and we believe this can be achieved only by looking out.
We would be delighted if you could join us for the opening reception. The exhibition runs until 16 October and is open Tuesday to Saturday 11.30am to 4.30pm, Sunday 2.00pm to 4.00pm. There is free parking outside the gallery, including disabled parking. You can find more information on the Facebook events page.
I will also give a talk at the gallery on 6 October at 7pm. Do contact me if you are interested in attending.
I always take apart bouquets and put some of the flowers in these antique salt and pepper shakers to sit on my windowsill in the kitchen.

The building opposite, incidentally, is one of a range, in the High Street, dating from c. 1500 and grade II listed.
My first ever image for Macro Mondays, for the theme `Negative space'. I took this shot by the burn by my house last week. I generally use negative space in a lot of my images, and I like it in this one, to show that the beetle is small, and to give the feeling that the beetle is looking out over a vast macro landscape.
I saw quite a few beetles while I was out, but didn't get great ID shots of any of them, as they all tumbled into the undergrowth never to be seen again :), as beetles do.
Thanks to rockwolf for the possible ID. Could be: Water scavenger beetle (Hydrophilidae)
This view will change a lot over the next months as One World Trade Center (probably still better known as Freedom Tower) will grow into this frame.
The building on the left is 7 World Trade Center.
7 World Trade Center is a building in New York City located across from the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. The name "7 World Trade Center" has referred to two buildings: the original structure, completed in 1987, and the current structure. The original building was destroyed on September 11, 2001 and replaced with the new 7 World Trade Center, which opened in 2006.
The new 7 World Trade Center has 52 stories and is 741 ft (226 m) tall. The building has 42 floors of leasable space, starting at the 11th floor. The first ten floors house an electrical substation, which provides power to much of Lower Manhattan.

Have a great weekend, Everyone!
Back to Oxleas Wood for another walk today, and a bit more exploring. I was on the lookout for parakeets in tree holes, and lo and behold, I found one! I was so happy - cue lots of grinning after I took this shot. It's perhaps not the best quality, but I don't care, it made me happy!
It was a beautiful day - very glad to have made the most of it with a lovely woodland wander. Back home for eggs on toast, then a very chilled afternoon, and veggie burgers for dinner, followed by the last Top Gear of the series.
What's going on out here?
