Here is a nice view from the living room into the kitchen of a log home in Phelps WI. The homeowner wanted massive log beams and a rustic log home feel throughout the house. This was one of my favorite projects and I hope you enjoy the photo.

The Speicherstadt (literally 'City of Warehouses,' meaning warehouse district) in Hamburg, is the largest warehouse district in the world where the buildings stand on timber-pile foundations, oak logs, in this particular case. It is located in the port of Hamburg, within the HafenCity quarter, and was built from 1883 to 1927.

The district was built as a free zone to transfer goods without paying customs. The district and the surrounding area have been under redevelopment for many years as the port industry has evolved. As an exceptional example of Neo-Gothic and modernist architecture, and for its testimony to the development of international maritime trade, the Speicherstadt was awarded the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 5, 2015, along with the nearby Kontorhaus District.

Hamburg (Hamborg in Low Saxon or the Hamburger dialect of German), officially the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, is the second-largest city in Germany. It is also the 8th-largest city in the European Union, with a population of over 1.9 million. The Hamburg Metropolitan Region has a population of over 5.1 million and is the ninth-largest metropolitan region by GDP in the EU.

At the southern tip of the Jutland Peninsula, Hamburg is situated on the distributaries of the River Elbe at the head of a 68 mile (110 kilometer) estuary to the North Sea, on the mouth of the Alster and Bille. Hamburg is one of Germany's three city-states alongside Berlin and Bremen, and is surrounded by Schleswig-Holstein to the north and Lower Saxony to the south. The Port of Hamburg is Germany's largest and Europe's third-largest, after Rotterdam and Antwerp. The local dialect is a variant of Low Saxon.

The official name reflects Hamburg's history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League and a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire. Before the 1871 unification of Germany, it was a fully sovereign city state, and before 1919 formed a civic republic headed constitutionally by a class of hereditary Grand Burghers or Hanseaten. Beset by disasters such as the Great Fire of Hamburg, North Sea flood of 1962, and military conflicts including World War II bombing raids, the city has managed to recover and emerge wealthier after each catastrophe.

More summer crafting, new potholders for the cottage.

Have spent a week in a beautiful safe anchorage only a couple of miles from the Masig ( york island) community. Wonderful place and freindly torres straight islanders to chat with while shopping at there 2 stores. Population is about 350 and its a great group of Islands. Now we are fueled up with the barge and ready to venture east out thru the barrier to Ashmore reef tommorrow. After diving Ashmore for a few days we'll work our way south past Raine Island till we meet the a barge at lockhard river in 4 weeks. By then we'll need fuel, food and an internet / mobile phone fix :)

p.s tha above tree is called " THE BIG TREE" and was a gift to the islanders from the city of Cairns.

Logs from deforestation alongside young palm plants outside Long Noran village, East Kalimantan. Bukit Subur Estate with palm tree plantation and forest is in the background. Deforestation is driving climate change and pushing endangered species like the orangutan to the brink of extinction.

According to recent estimates, Indonesia is the third largest greenhouse gas polluter of any nation on the planet, largely due to the destruction of its rainforest and peatlands. Clearing massive tracts of forest also has a major impact on wildlife diversity, and creates social conflict with indigenous communities.

Apparently this strange looking beast is the only surviving logging locomotive built by Davidson & Company of Hokitika, New Zealand, and is of an 0-4-4-0 wheel arrangement. It sits alongside Highway 7 a few miles from Greymouth and was photographed in November 2005.
