I thought this was a cool picture. My ex-Girlfriend attempting to break into a locked room when we were still together.
Lock 13 at Marple proved to be the very devil of a job to clear of mud when the Peak Forest Canal Society set about it with barrow hoist and men with shovels. Each time we started work something would break. The pump would stop working or the hoist failed, or some other disaster would befall the job. Instead of a weekend it took several weeks before it was finally emptied of that black mud. This photo was taken at the beginning of the Lock 13 saga in September 1972.
Some of the 8 million or so padlocks in the vicinity of the Ponte Vecchio. Supposedly, if you and a lover lock a padlock on the bridge and toss the key in the river, your love will last forever.
Two points:
* What's good for love is, as usual, not so good for fish.
* Whatever lockmaker dreamed this legend up must have made a killing.
American Steamship Co.'s Consumers Power is about ready to exit the MacArthur Lock downbound. The Edward B. Greene comes into the Poe Lock upbound on a September 1974 morning.
