This is a canal lock in Wolverhampton, UK. When I saw this challenge, I thought canal lock rather than lock and key. It was before dawn when this was taken. Using on-camera flash has helped to make it stand out from its surroundings.
Built in 1938, this dam on the Upper Mississippi River holds back the widest part of the river, with a reservoir of over 192,000 acres.

Teston Lock, near Maidstone, Kent.
Teston Lock on the River Medway in Kent was 100years old and showing its age. The Environment Agency who are the navigation Authority for the River Medway decided that the lock was in serious need of refurbishment, this work is due for completion in autumn of 2013. The lock has only recently (August 2013) been fully reopened.

Action from a Tetley's Challenge Cup first round tie in Castleford between hosts Lock Lane (light blue strip) and neighbours Normanton Knights. The visitors edged a tense battle 15-14 thanks to a stoppage time drop goal. In this view, a Normanton player is held up driving out of his 22. Knights, of the Kingstone Press National Conference League's First Division, sprang a surprise against top-flight Lane as 44 selected amateur clubs set out on the Road to Wembley. Controversially, clubs still playing a winter season were not invited by the RFL to take part in its flagship knockout competition. This tie attracted a crowd of about 500.
this is the gate that lets the water in and out of the waterway, keeping the water levels stable. to the right is the boat lock with the lookout and the lock control room above the seaward lock gate, from this look out is where I get my "looking across the creek toward the city" from - this shot is taken from the footbridge that opens up when the lock does

A padlock on the railing of a pedestrian bridge over the Tammerkoski rapids.
I guess it's a lock of love. We haven't had this tradition in Finland before, but these locks have been seen on tv just recently.
"Locks of love are the padlocks fixed by loving couples, on to a fence or a pole or metallic chain/string alongside some wall etc at a public place, to symbolize their eternal love. A couple would hang a padlock after inscribing their name or initials on it and throw the key away so that their love is locked forever." - Locks of love around the world
