We don't have door to door delivery, so most folks in Stayner have a lock box where we can pick up our mail 24/7. This lobby is relatively new and all new boxes were installed during recent renovations. You can see the change in the floor where the lobby was extended.

Rarely has a locked door looked so inviting. Village of Rousillon in the Luberon, southern France. Rousillon is a hilltop village in an area famed for its ochre mines. Everything is red and at times like Colorado, or even rather Martian! Having climbed to the top of the village this door with its striking blues caught my eye all the more.

Some of the lock hardware found on Lock 48. At one time this and many other locks along the C&O Canal saw a ton of traffic. I can't imagine seeing this marvel of engineering back in it's heyday.

a view from the river Schelde towards the Berendrecht lock. A number of inland waterways vessels are sailing out as the giant container vessel MSC Rosa M is preparing to start its voyage to the Far East.

The Berendrecht lock is the largest lock in the World. It measures 500m in length by 68m in width with a depth of 13.58 meters. It gives acces for large ocean vessels from the River Schelde to the port of Antwerp on the right bank of the River.

Up to its opening in 1989, the adjacent Zandvliet lock held the title of biggest lock in the World. It has the same length but a width of ‘only’ 50m. In 2016 even the Berendrecht lock will lose the title to the Deurganck lock which is now being built on the left bank of the River Schelde. The new lock will have the same width and length but a depth of 17,80m.
