My goodness, are you hoi polloi?

My word I think you are

The tradesmen’s entrance’s round the back

This really is bizarre

I thought you were the Countess

She’s due here for high tea

She doesn’t visit many

But she comes to call on me

Are you still here? Well really

One ought to know one’s place

You really should be out of sight

(You should call me ‘Your Grace’)

You see I am the Duchess

Of course noblesse oblige

But please can you go round the back

So you don’t me displease

What’s that you’re from the Premium Bonds?

My number has come up?

The house needs renovation

Well there’s some bloomin’ luck

You should have said so sooner

Is that the cheque? Please show

Thank you, now I’ve got it

Goodbye, yes you can go.

Beech - local walk.

The poem for this one may have been influenced by the Wildlife Cafe....

You probably won’t believe this

I hardly do myself

I must admit it’s curious

But I can't blame no one else

You see I ‘stepped in something’

Yes, you know what I mean

Those boots were only one week old

It made me want to scream

I suppose it was my own fault

As the animals, I feed

It started off with leftovers

As well as the bird seed

But now I have a garden full

They’re here all day and night

I went to put the rubbish out

And Did I get a fright!

I’m used to seeing badgers

Foxes and, yes, rats

And everybody’s garden

Gets visited by cats

But today there was a donkey!

He got here, tell me how

And then I turned around and, What?

Now there’s a blooming cow

That’s when I ‘stepped in something’

It was a steaming pat

I went up to my ankles

So whadya think of that?

It really was the last thing

That I thought I’d meet

So now you know just why I’m here

Standing in bare feet.

Today's Lockdown cartoon and rhyme. As always, artwork by Andrea and words by me

I’m going to a party

I don’t know what to wear

So I’m gonna try on everything

Sometimes I just don’t care

The party invite said quite clear

‘Come In Fancy Dress’

I don’t know if I’ve pulled it off

Or just look a right mess

I might be Grayson Perry

I’ve always liked his pluck

And when the others try to guess

They’ll think it’s him (with any luck)

That’s it I’ll go as Grayson

Though I’m not much good at art

They’ll either think that I am him

Or say “Who’s that old fart?”

Today's Lockdown cartoon for your amusement. Thanks again to Andrea for the artwork.

Good morning. Here is Sunday's Lockdown 2 cartoon for your enjoyment. As always, thanks to Andrea for the artwork.

I am a Good Samaritan

‘Cos these here two aren’t mine

I walk them for a neighbour

And so far they’ve been fine

The small one tends to tangle

Somewhat round my feet

And she always wants to say “Hello”

To everyone we meet

I never let them off the lead

Until it’s safe to do

Then they’ll run around the woods,

Find streams to run right through

They like to chase the squirrels

That scamper up the trees

I’m glad they’ve never caught one yet

(Do squirrels pass on fleas?)

I walk them for an hour or so

Then they begin to flag

And as we head back home again

Their tails they start to wag

My neighbour’s pleased to see them

As we head up her front path

I’m sorry but I rather think

They’re gonna need a bath.

A van put it's lights on which helped to light this shot.

Little camera propped up on a planter!

This is hand held using my old little Lumix TZ. It's not as good as my Lumix GX80, but fits in my pocket and sometimes I don't want to carry much when I'm walking.

This is our penultimate Bonus cartoon for your enjoyment. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read, 'Fave' and especially comment on the efforts of Andrea and me. We'll be back for next year's Inktober, all being well. Here you go then:

My friends all call me ‘Eeyore’

My house ‘The Gloomy Place’

They say I am a pessimist

Well, just look at my face

Don’t think that I should take up golf

That’s something I don’t oughta

I’d have to shout ‘FORE!’, left and right

Or I’d hit it in the water

And whilst the sun is shining

I think that it will rain

I won’t go for a walk then

That plan’s gone down the drain

I suppose I am a pessimist

And perhaps I am a grouch

My shoulders both are rounded

That’s because I am a slouch

What’s that? I think knock I hear

There’s someone at the door

Someone’s left a cake for me

And look some petit four!

Now, there’s a note beside them

It makes me kind of glad

It says ‘For You, Be Happy’

Wow! I’m no longer sad

😊

It looks a bit spooky at this time of the day (see photo in comments of a daytime shot, from the other end of the alley).

Lockdown 2, Day 16.

Poole 20.11.2020

Remembrance Sunday is usually marked by ceremonies held at war memorials up and down the country with many present and former members of the armed services attending. Lockdown 2 has sadly been very different.

The main organisers of the events, the British Legion, said ‘We are encouraging people across the nations to ensure Remembrance Sunday is still marked appropriately by taking part in remote and socially distanced Remembrance activity, whether that be watching the service on television or pausing for the Two Minute Silence in their home or on their doorsteps.”

Veterans have not been able to sell poppies but the public could purchase other poppy goods online including a poppy people can print off at home and put in their windows.

The Government led Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph went ahead as a closed ceremony but the March past the cenotaph did not take place.

Portraits from the Street - Bob Spencer

Although the normal Brighton March was replaced by a much smaller scale event I thought I would walk along the sea front to the memorial fountain to see the wreaths, crosses and poppies. I met a few veterans including Bob who served 5 years in the Royal Pioneer Corps in Northern Island as an arms and explosives dog handler. His medals were the Northern Island medal and the Accumulated Service Medal

I'm not so happy with my poem for this one, but not to publish it would deprive you of Andrea's artwork. Tomorrow's will be better, as we come to the end of our Lockdown 2 entertainment. Anyway, here is the poem for what it's worth.

We’ve just come out of Lockdown 2

Now we can meet a friend

It depends on which class Tier we’re in

How many can attend

Bee and I are in Tier Two

(That’s better than Tier Three)

We still must social distance though

And can’t be quite carefree

But it’s good we can meet up again

And do our favourite walk

To catch up on each other’s news

It’s good to have a talk

We’re not sure if the vaccine

Will be applied to pets

Bee’s quite sure he won’t get it

(Nor will most as yet)

So lets be glad we can get out

And meet a friend again

‘Cos it doesn’t do us any good

To stay in and complain.

The Body Shop - Open for Click and Collect

I did wonder what category the Body Shop was in that allowed it to remain open. Then I went over to a table in the doorway and the sales lady explained that I could click and collect. Her name was Anastasia - beautiful.

Todays artwork and poem for another gloomy lockdown 2 day.

I find that hands are useful

For lots of different things

Like buttering toast for breakfast

And putting litter into bins

To button up my clothes would be

Quite awkward without hands

I couldn’t buckle up my belt

(I’d use elastic bands)

I never pick my nose of course

But hands would help me to

And I think that I’d need slip on boots

Or maybe slip on shoes

Yes, t’would be quite awkward

If hands were just ‘no shows’

I’d have to cook my dinner

On my back and use my toes.

A lovely afternoon with a bit of sun and mist.

Lockdown 2 Day 25.

Dorset 29.11.2020

Today's Lockdown 2 Cartoon. John, the marrow and 'Patience' are all real! (So is the jam).

Good day to you, my name is John

I’ve grown a giant marrow

I’ve brought it back, from my allotment

In a wheelbarrow

I think I’ll make it into jam

I’ll add some ginger (fresh)

It’s far too big to eat at once

There’s really too much flesh

I have a large allotment

Grow fruit and veg to eat

If the weather’s good I walk each way

(It keeps my waistline neat)

But if it’s wet, I take the car

(Called ‘Patience’, she’s a Moggie)

A Morris Minor, coloured green

But I don’t go if it’s foggy

I must get on, there’s jam to make

I’ve left it now to stew

And if you like, when it has cooled

I’ll send a jar to you.

There’s one thing here that we don’t get

It makes us wonder why

You live up there, where it’s not wet

And there is too much sky

I’m not sure how to say this

Or quite where to begin

I hope you don’t think that I’m rude

But, well, you’ve got dry skin!

Surely that’s uncomfortable

And how d’you breathe that air?

It must be hard to move around

It must be a nightmare

We pity you, so cumbersome

When you’re stuck on the ground

It must be hard to get about

How DO you get around?

You can’t go up, you can’t go down

Unless you use machines

But us? We just can swim about

(And as for your latrines!)

So really now, be honest

If you had a wish

We know what you’d be wishing for

You’d wish to be a fish!
