See previous post. This red Mason (Osima bicornis) bee has made a home for her brood in an old door at our house - one that is not used. Inside she has made compartments out of mud to lay eggs in - one per cell and leaves some pollen in there, also to feed the grubs.

Ok, as a few of you have asked, Andrea and I will add some more cartoons and doggerel whilst Lockdown 2 is on. We hope it will divert your attention for a few moments.
Out on my lockdown exercise walk (this time along Coventry's River Sowe Valley) and used it as a chance to meet up with this little friend who I'd not seen in weeks.

Male, sizes for hoverflies tend to be given as wing lengths, this one is listed as just under 10mm
Another new hoverfly, once again hanging out on the Laurel behind my flat, things could get very quiet out there once it’s finished flowering !
Initially saw one, a day later there were dozens, a week later back to just a few. The markings on the back were very variable but mostly followed the same basic pattern. It’s not a heavily recorded species in the North East, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen one, I’ve seen it at work since too.
Only saw males so maybe they’ve gone off up higher in the bushes after the initial emergence.

As the UK was preparing to go into lockdown local authorities were told by the government that all rough sleepers and those in hostels and night shelters had to be housed in single rooms by the weekend.
This was to be supported by £3.2 million of initial emergency funding to help them self-isolate and reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
The Brighton Homeless buses and the arches that the Black Rock rough sleepers were living in emptied overnight.
In Brighton this has caused quite a few issues with the homeless who are not used to being confined to one room in total isolation. A group called ‘Sussex Homeless Support’ lead by Jim Deans is providing a nightly soup kitchen and a hot meal on Sundays, amongst many many other things. They have been doing this for many years but it now seems all the more essential.
This does lead to illegal gatherings of a lot of people but the group does work in strict accordance with health and safety and coronavirus rules and the police are now supporting them.
Being a keen cyclist with more time and good weather, it has been a case of only snapping the odd bus with my iphone whilst out enjoying my government mandated exercise during the Covid lockdown. However, I have captured a few of the odd vehicle movements as operators used the most fuel efficient vehicles or those best suited to applying social distancing.
Seen at Wells depot on May 16th 2020 were a pair of Volvo B7RLEs that continued to be required for use (possibly for the 126) in First 69458 WX59BZM with similar 69447 hidden behind Bath depot e400mmc 33943 YX66WEO, wearing its Unibus livery.
