What happens when employees formalize their grievance procedures?
This happened in Seeberville.
The Champion Copper Company follows strikers to their home. John Kalan and John Stimac walked home the same way they did everyday. (I will note that all property in Painesdale and Seeberville was company owned.)
The mine company stopped the two men (who were strikers) walking home their usual path and then the company declared they could not go that route. A judge ruled that "none of these roads or paths were public highways and it was within the rights of the mining company to close any or all of them temporarily or permanent whenever it saw fit to do so". So how do people go home?
Kalan and Stimac continued home.
They were followed and the deputies and company men jumped the fence at the Putrich house (a Croatian home, also a boarding house) and entered the property and surrounded it. A striker hit a deputy with an object after being antagonized.
The mining men opened fired into the house at point blank range. Antonia Putrich testified that there was so much smoke from gunfire inside she could not see. She ran out the back door with baby in arms; she was so close to the deputies gunfire that the baby suffered powder burns to the face.
When the smoke cleared, two men were dead and two were wounded.
The company men and deputies declared they were fired upon first, but the Croatian miners and family members had no weapons. No weapons were ever discovered when the house was searched heavily after the incident.
This was the outcome when the working men of this country have no rights of labor — and they would like to create order for themselves in the workplace.

The best way to appreciate this photo couplet is to first refer to Part 9 of this set, which provides topographic and lidar maps of this locale as well as its description.
The upper shot was taken facing eastward, along Route 71 just a few yd/m north of the entrance to the access drive leading into the gas-station-and-motel complex at the corner of 71 and Minnesota 19.
The lower image faces northeastward. It was taken from the upper portion of the access drive cited just above.
Now that I've presented a succession of photos of the Morton Gneiss in architectural applications like this one, it's a nice change of pace to show the amazingly ancient migmatite in its native habitat.
The easily overlooked hillock shown here is a combination of rocky bald spots and patches of vegetation. It came into being when it was exposed, scoured, and sculpted by the surging waters of River Warren, the drainageway for the immense proglacial Lake Agassiz that formed late in the Pleistocene epoch.
If you wander around the top of this erosional knob—it is now the Morton Outcrops Scientific and Natural Area—you'll find remnants of old quarrying operations as well as "potholes" ground into the hard gneiss by loose stones caught in eddies of the River Warren megaflood.
Not surprisingly, in many places in the preserve the Morton is either mantled in lithophytic plant communities or is heavily weathered, and the details of its complicated composition are difficult to impossible to decipher. Luckily, there is one roadcut on the side of the hillock, situated very close to the lower image's location, where we can see some less altered faces. I'll be showing that in the next few pics of this set.
In the meantime, keep in mind that the unprepossessing rock outcrops you see here originated as early as 3.524 Ga ago, and not in one of the cratons of Laurentia (ancestral North America), but rather as part of the enigmatic Minnesota River Valley Terrane. That peripatetic section of the Earth's crust dates back at least as far as the Paleoarchean era. Where exactly it came from, we're not yet sure, but it merged with the Superior Craton at about 2.68 Ga ago.

Barnafoss est une cascade d'Islande. Cette chute d'eau se trouve en amont des cascades Hraunfossar, sur la rivière Hvítá dans la région du champ de lave Hallmundarhraun.
Barnafoss signifie la chute des enfants, ce nom provient d'une histoire locale : le jour de Noël, les enfants de la famille Hraunsás étaient restés seuls chez eux pendant que leurs parents se rendaient à la messe. Les enfants s'en furent jouer sur l'arche de pierre qui enjambait la rivière, tombèrent dans la chute et se noyèrent. Apprenant l'accident, la mère fit alors abattre ce pont naturel.
La rivière à cet endroit a la particularité de passer sous une arche de pierre qui se situe juste au niveau de l'eau, formant ainsi de puissants remous.

Barnafossar is also known as Bjarnafossar, which was its previous name. Barnafoss is near Hraunfossar which burst out of Hallmundarhraun which is a great lava plain. Barnafoss is on the river Hvita in Borgarfjordur. Hraunfossar flows out of a lava field into Hvita near Barnafoss, creating a stunning scenery.
Many Icelandic folk tales have been associated with Barnafoss, the most famous being about two boys from a nearby farm, Hraunsás. One day, the boys' parents went with their ploughmen to a church. The boys were supposed to stay at home, but as they grew bored they decided to follow their parents. They made a shortcut and crossed a natural stone-bridge that was above the waterfall. But on their way, they felt dizzy and fell into the water and drowned. When their mother found out what had happened, she put a spell on the bridge saying that nobody would ever cross it without drowning himself. A little while later, the bridge was demolished in an earthquake.

En "O Rañal", en Arteixo, es fácil ver a este personaje de bolsa "imitación de Biona" en la cabeza, zapatos recauchutados con trozos de Firestone 165 65 R15 88H y una roña que le cae a pedazos.
Es uno de esos locos locales que "revolotean" entre la fauna humana del Siglo veintiuno.
Como dirían os do Caramuxo: "Ghuapo, Ghuapo, non é... pero ten un pelasooo!!!!"
