Since this Barber Shop opened (late 70's?), there has been a hand-painted mural in this spot ever since. Over the years, different murals have been painted here by local artist, painter and sign-maker, Jim Cassidy (b.1926). He usually signed his own work but the current mural, as above, has no signature and this may be a reproduction in Jim's artistic style.

Jim Cassidy lived in Finglas from 1958 until 2003, before moving to Mornington in County Meath and during much of his time in Finglas he was a very active member of the community. He had painted many outdoor murals around Finglas, helped restore the St. Patrick's Well grotto and led the restoration of the 1932 Eucharistic Congress alter in the grounds of Cappagh Orthopaedic Hospital. Jim was also an active environmentalist who campaigned on local issues such as Dunsink tiphead, cleaning up the River Tolka and the effects of rampant development that has destroyed the character of old Finglas Village.

Bristlecone Pine jewelry boxes

These rustic-appearing beautiful jewelry boxes (or desk organizers!) are made from Bristle Cone Pine that was burned over by a forest fire in the 1880's. Bristle Cone Pine grows high in the Rocky Mountains at 8000 feet and over, and is the oldest living thing in the world. These boxes are made from trees that are 200 to 1000 years old.

The boxes are hand made in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado, US, and finished with a fine Danish oil.

You can find the Bristlecone Pine jewelry boxes at
