On our way to and from our niece's graduation at Wittenburg in Springfield, Ohio, we stopped at Berea College and at the Kentucky Arts and Crafts Center near Berea. Both are just off Interstate 75, and are well worth exploring.
If you wander around the narrow lanes of the old city of Baku (Icheri Seher) in Azerbaijan, you would certainly pass by the studio of Ali Shamsi. The exterior of his studio is very artistically decorated and there's a world of details in it, but there is much to see inside as well. This tiny studio is filled with great paintings and quirky installations. The studio consists of only two rooms but is well worth a visit. It is also interesting to meet the artist himself- that's me with him here. People sometimes call him the barefoot artist as he sometimes walks around without footwear. (I did not notice this, frankly). He has also decorated the exterior walls of his studio and has even painted the trees outside! A refreshing touch of art in the congested old city of Icheri Shehar in Baku. In true professional or astist style, he is quietly proud of his work and never utters a word or pushes you to buy- I mean, it's his love the art which is on display. Each item on display is a work or art- there is no mass produced stuff being thrust into your face. It was a total man cave in his studio, and true works of art notwithstanding, the art was also at times rather eccentric. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

Some portraits of Emily Otnes, a local Champaign-Urbana musician and a really good friend of mine. This was easily one of the most fun portrait shoots I've ever done, and one of the most fun days I've ever had in general. Emily is a total blast to work with, incredibly talented, and a wonderful friend.
It was amazing to get to shoot with her for the cover of Symphony Magazine's December 2013 issue (our 5th issue EVER!), which you can find here: issuu.com/symphonymagazine/docs/issue_5
Here are some links if you want to check out her music, which I would HIGHLY recommend:
Facebook // Bandcamp // Spotify
And here are a bunch of links for Symphony Magazine...

I was walking home from a friend's place, and ran into another photographer on the street. His name was Mark, and he is doing a project on a great local artist, who has been bringing joy to some streetstairs around the way. Mark is from Berlin, and is very talented.
Walking up the streetsteps, I talked to the artist, who signs his work as Bokov, or Boko. His name is the Russian version of Constantine, but I couldn't imagine how to spell it. I let him know that his work was appreciated and loved in this neighborhood, and thanked him for his work on the stairs.
As I was walking up, he called me back, and said he had something for me. He gave me this beautiful piece you see here.
I was so touched by this gesture, and I will always treasure this gift.
These days are dark, hope is hard to hang on to. This just brightened my world today.
