This is Stella, our rescue cat. Her previous owners took her to the vet to be euthanised. The vet refused and gave her to the local pet sanctuary. The cat sanctuary told us black cats are especially hard to re-home. Stella is, in addition, partially sighted, making her even harder to place. However, I think Stella chose us and we’re very happy together.

When visiting Mono Lake in the Spring, layered clothing is the only way to go. I was having lunch at a local diner where patrons were dressed in everything from flip flops and shorts to parkas and boots, depending on what the weather was when they left their hotels that morning... and whether or not they came prepared. I soon discovered weather forecasts were near useless. A predicted snowfall could dump its load 10 miles away leaving you comfortable in a tank top, or it could catch you shivering in your sandals.

FYI - map insists on saying this photo was taken from Lee Vining Airport. It wasn't. It was taken from a gravel road close to the shores of Mono Lake looking east.

On just about any rain-free spring, summer or autumn afternoon in my hometown one can spot this hot air balloon. On three occasions this year it has landed in my neighborhood. As the wind currents slow, so does the balloon and eventually it must come down. I find myself chasing it and talking to the captain or helping the chase team pack it up. One of the really cool things about riding in a hot air balloon is . . . you don't feel the wind in your hair because you are traveling at the exact speed as the current.

Back to my local squirrels for the last post from me for 2023. Hoping to have many more trips to see these guys over the winter.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to look at my photos over the last year. It's been a good one, and hopefully next year will be the same if not better! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in 2024. :)

Advertising in Haiti is very much handmade and local. There are no traces of chains or other corporations. While this can be refreshing, "private morgues" are a grim reminder of the lack of public infrastructure. If your loved one dies, who knows what happens in the public morgue.

It's kind of crazy that there are two small waterfall features in a NW Arkansas suburb that are pretty easy to access. Shooting ultra-wide has always been challenging for me, so this shot is a step in remedying that and getting better at it!
