I met this guide in Sri Lanka in January 2019, he was very interesting to talk to and as you can see he has a stunning head of hair. (I’m very jealous!)

I wonder what these "uncles", as the locals call them, are thinking in the midst of all the hustle in this city. I see the same fellows every day sitting about Chinatown MRT, seemingly keeping an eye on things. A few days ago I was sitting at a nearby hawker stall having a bowl of mee siam and a white coffee and a group of them sitting at the next table started eyeing me closely. Minutes later they all had bowls of mee siam and mugs of white coffee. ^____^

The Somerville Local was switching in the yard at Somerville as we were driving by. Not often you see a triple unit consist of SD40's in 2021, so I stopped for a few photos.

This is BNSF train R-RDV0361-16I, with BNSF 1935 in original Cascade Green paint with safety stripes, BNSF 1681 in Heritage I, and BNSF 1671 in Heritage III.

BNSF 1935 was originally built as BN 7137 in January 1979. It was renumbered as BNSF 7137 after the merger, then renumbered to BNSF 1935 to make room for the ES44DC fleet.

BNSF 1681 was originally built as BN 6348 in March 1973. It was renumbered to BN 6808, then BNSF 6808 after the merger, then renumbered to BNSF 1681 to make room for the new ES44C4 locomotives.

BNSF 1671 was originally built as BN 8020 in March 1978. It was renumbered to BNSF 8020 after the merger, then renumbered again to BNSF 1671 to make room for the new ES44C4 locomotives. It was recently repainted in Heritage III scheme, from the old Cascade Green with safety stripes, which it wore all the way up to 2020.

He was headed right into the patio area of a local restaurant, but we figured, "Why bother those folks." He made me quite nervous because tho he seemed to be just plodding along, they can move alarming quickly when they want to.

Its amazing what is seen through the hedgerows.I thought I would show you what I saw as I wondered around the local lanes. This led me to see this lonesome tree, then another one a bit further on.I also thought the hedging framed the tree quite well. Not as clear as I hoped,i will have to revisit.

We visited a local village in the Atlas mountains and this little guy was checking us out.

With morning temps already quite warm even Jasper slows down after a few mad sprints across the playing field. But not wanting to stop play entirely Jasper asks for a few "local lobs" while he cools down. I toss the ball high in the immediate vicinity so he can hone his jump-chomp coordination.

I had a couple recent comments that my watermark was too garish and distracting so I'm trying out a new one. That's Jasper's profile I used. Now taking any other suggestions for improvement

Baguio, Philippines. Every time I travel I always like to go and checkout the local markets. I can learn more about the culture of the place I'm visiting by knowing and tasting the foods that the locals enjoy.

Not got round to photographing this one, but 27601 was repainted last December into the local livery. Now ten months on the panel joins are starting to show on the bare side panels whilst First Aberdeens E300 look the same in their livery.

Browse waterfall sites long enough and you'll come up with all sorts of places to explore you never knew existed! About a year ago I started hearing about this "local favorite" of a place called Jump Creek Falls, but it being out toward Marsing and Marsing not being a place I typically have much reason to visit, I hadn't bothered checking it out before. But coming back from my roadtrip and already being out toward the Oregon border (and being tired of sitting in the car for hours), I figured it would be a good break.

The problem? I couldn't remember how to find it. So as I crossed the Idaho border, I stopped at the welcome center and a couple of kind gentlemen (neither of whom had heard of the falls, which made me feel very knowledgeable) looked up the intersection for me, which my GPS pinpointed without any trouble.

The verdict on Jump Creek? Well, it's kind of cool. I don't know if it's worth a special trip out there if you're coming from Boise since it's only a 10-minute hike and not much to do once you're there, but if you're in the area, it's worth a stop. Maybe it would be more impressive a little earlier in the spring!

How to get there:

1) Set your GPS for the intersection of Jump Creek Road and Poison Creek Road outside Marsing.

2) Continue south on Jump Creek Road through the intersection as it immediately turns to gravel road, and take the right fork (the one with the "One lane bridge" sign).

3) Continue down the gravel road and when you come to the next fork at the pack it in, pack it out sign, go left toward the rocky canyon.

4) Road conditions permitting, follow the steep but short ramp down to the lower trailhead. Otherwise you can park at the upper lot and walk down, or follow the canyon rim trail.

Enjoy!

Most Wednesdays, the UP sends a local over to Rockford, IL, from Belvidere. In addition to customers in the lovely downtown area, the train services the former Kenosha District, or KD line, which only goes as far as Loves Park these days to Rock Valley Oil & Chemical at Windsor Road. But nearby Cimco Resources, via a spur beginning at Riverside Boulevard, also recently started receiving carloads of scrap steel, doubling the number of customers on the KD line. On 3-30-16, the local delivered a couple loads and pulled this empty gondola away from the plant, maneuvering in the parkway trackage along Material Ave.

The snow we had two days ago also fell in the patio garden of the school I'm working at. In the background you can see that there is still some teaching going on.

A pair of BNSF Dash 8's creep out of the Cargill spur onto the main. These motors are assigned to the BNSF 664 local tonight. It will head east to meet Amtrak #5 and do work in Ottumwa. Nice to see these old motors still working. Eddyville, IA 3/28/16.
