Usually the territory of geeps, the Superior transfer sometimes ends up getting some larger power based on how many cars go one way or the other. Seen here getting ready to cross over 28th street, CP 8729 and KCSM 4552 prepare to take the curve into Stinson Yard with it’s short train for the yard power to break down and sort. In the background stands the old Peavy grain elevator, sporting a large hole in the side thanks to an explosion it had some time before this, which thankfully still sports the old Peavy name despite it today being owned by Viterra.

The village of Mogarraz is quite interesting not only because of its old history but more recently because of a local artist, Florencio Maillo. The story we received is that at one point in the not too distant past economic prospects in the town looked bleak. Many had hopes on immigrating to South America for employment. Maillo took it upon himself to paint the faces of the locals as a remembrance. Some 388 portraits now hang along the exterior walls of many of the homes clustered along the narrow pathways throughout the village

Pennan seems to have come into existence as a fishing village in the 18th century. Until the 1930s, the population of the village originates around three main surnames - Watt, Gatt and West.

The people of Pennan were dependent on the sea. Most families had small boats for their own personal use. Where the men would catch the fish, it was usually down to the women and children to try to sell it to clients in the country.

In the last 50 years, most of the native families have moved out and most of the houses have been bought as holiday homes.

Pennan became famous in the 1980s for being used as one of the main locations for the film Local Hero, and representing the fictional village of Ferness. Film enthusiasts have come from all over the world to make a phone call in the red telephone box which featured in the film.

The phone box was in fact originally put there as a prop for the film, and then removed, but as a result of public demand a genuine telephone box was installed a few metres from the original spot (+44 3466 210), and has been a listed building since 1989.

The footage of the beautiful white sand beaches used in the film were shot over on the West coast of Scotland at Morar (Camas an Daraich) very near the town and port of Morar. then spliced together with the scenes shot here in an almost seamless blend, to make the area seem one.
