Merlins are small hawks related to falcons. They pushed the , crow family out of their nest last year....and this year made babies. Three days ago I woke up to a commotion outside. Merlins all over the place whining and wailing and swooping and swerving. Flight training! The 3 kids had left the nest! Ye Olde Maple Tree was their jungle gym. They were thrashing and almost crashing as they tried to perch on twigs.
That same morning, there was an announcement on local tv that a certain area of the Green Mtns was open to hikers again because the falcons had left their nests and were no longer vulnerable to human interference.
Mother Nature's timing amazes me.
And I will be glad to have them move on now. They eat my little bird friends. Truth be told, I shouldn't even have a bird feeder out there.
.....although I read that merlins usually take their prey in flight. That makes me feel only a little better.

PTG ran their third Bulgarian railtour (entitled Magnificent Seven to the Black Sea) featuring some very shiny 87s in May 2010. It featured (in order) 87003, 87020, 87028, 87004, 87008.
On leaving Veliko Turnovo a highlight, for the track scratchers on the tour, was a run up to Gabrovo - a unit only branch.
87004 seen here running round the stock (far right) in Gabrovo station next to the normal sight here - an ex Soviet 32 EMU. This was such a notable event that even the local TV news appeared to film the proceedings!
I did a photo with this same title and purpose on my old stream back in April. Sadly, I have a reason to do another one. This time, it happened just a few miles away from me. I apologize for the length, but this is a critically important issue. Something must be done. Please read.
Fourteen year old Samantha Kelly had just started her freshman year of high school. Out of curiosity, youthful excitement, peer pressure, she had sex with a popular senior boy. That night she confessed the deed to her mother. Initially it seemed only an irresponsible, but consensual indiscretion. However, in Michigan, a 14 year old cannot legally consent to sex. It wasn't long before rape charges were filed against the young man. Samantha's mother paraded her on the local tv news. There she told the reporter that the boy had forced himself on her. Was she pressured to change her story? Regardless, now the whole community knew the intimate details of this teen's private life. Samantha would now face the scrutiny of her family, her neighbors, classmates, and the police.
The whole school was divided. Students wore t-shirts with the boy's picture on them proclaiming his innocence. There was name calling, harassing text messages and Facebook statuses, but it went beyond that to threats of violence and actual violence. Students threw mud at her, made sexual gestures, even hit her. All the while, the case against the young man was progressing. There was no stopping it now. Samantha would be subjected to more questioning, criticism, humiliation. She would be expected to explain the discrepancies in her story. Any adult would wither under such circumstances. To a 14 year old, it must have seemed like the end of the world. Tragically, it was.
Last week, Samantha was scheduled to testify in court. The evening before the hearing, she excused herself from the dinner table and went upstairs to her room. An hour later, her 12 year old brother found her dead. She had hung herself. Written in marker on the wall was her goodbye note - "do you love me now? I have always loved you". The next dat at the hearing, rape charges were dropped.
I want to run through the streets screaming at the top of my lungs. "Wake up people going on about your lives as if everything is fine. What kind of world do we live in? What are we doing to our young people!" I find myself wondering where I was when Samantha crafting the noose. What meaningless self-centered thing was I doing while she was dying? What was going through her mind in those final minutes? Did she have second thoughts, but it was too late? Did she suffer long? I can't even imagine. It is too terrible to even contemplate, but I can't get it out of my head. Some thoughts you just can't turn off.
I couldn't hold back my emotions at work the other day. A co-worker caught me crying at my station and asked what was wrong. I almost made up something, but decided to tell the truth. She looked at me like I was from another planet. Crying over a complete stranger? What is wrong with you? No! What is wrong with you that you can hear a story like that and just move on? How can it not affect you? How can you look at this world and not cry every day?
Samantha was buried today. This whole experience makes me want to live my life differently, to be a better human being. We've all got to move past this indifference for our fellow humans. He's black, she's Muslim, he's a republican, she's an immigrant, he's gay, she's fat. Just stop! We're all people. Let's look out for each other. Where was Samantha's support network? One person could have made all the difference.
I saw an ad for an art exhibit - "Princess Diana, celebrating her life". I guess that's nice, but who will celebrate the life of Samantha Kelly, Phoebe Prince, Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown and countless other teens who committed suicide after enduring endless cruelty? We can all be part of the solution. Start today by remembering those lost. Then start looking out for those who need help. It is not too late for them. I will challenge myself to be a better person. Will you? So I ask you again, who will you save today?
I have tagged some of the people who continually inspire me. You are all amazing. You are my heroes. Please make a commitment to make a difference in someone's life. Forgive me if I have missed anyone.
Favorite #25, 2012: A beauty smiles during Dickens on the Strand, a Victorian Holiday Festival in Galveston, Texas. Sometimes a face stands out in a crowd. Not just because she was so pretty but because she seemed familiar. Did I know her from some where? My friend Joey solved the mystery for me when he identified her as one of our local TV personalities. Now I know why she looked so familiar.

The local TV and radio created much hysteria about the thunder snow bomb heading our way!! So I ventured to Marsden only to find a couple of centimetres of slush and the locals in T-shirts!! Pah! An eastbound 185 passes through Marsden.
Natascia is stranger n.19 in my "100 Strangers Project". I've met her during a wedding celebration. I was with my camera that day because of taking some pictures of my friend's marriage, and even because i didn't know anybody there... so i could kill time taking some photos around. Natascia was at my table during the lunch at restaurant. Had been a while i couldn't pursue with my project... so when i saw her, i thought she could be another "stranger" to shot! I don't think there's any need to explaine why i choosed her for my #19 stranger... I even said to her that her face was not so new for me... but i couldn't know why! So she said that maybe i saw her on some local tv channel or some event in my zone... because sometimes she works like presenter or hostess, and she also took part at the final stage of Miss Italy in 98'. When i explained to her my project she was happy to contribute with her face! So i took some pictures of her and this one u can see it's my favourite one! She was very confident in front of the camera, and it's easy to understand why... :-) ooooooooook so thank u so much Natascia! even #19 is gone! see u all for #20!!!! ;-)

Thinking, that the storm would continue its path to the north northwest. I positioned myself a few miles north of Hebron. I had to pause any way for a live broadcast to local tv stations to pick up streaming feed for broadcast.
These inflow moisture bands were insane. Very defined, feeding this thunderstorm monster... I was capturing some incredible Nebraska Stormscapes!

This is a two-seat McDonnell Douglas F/A-18D-24-MC Hornet (Bureau Number #163468) used for backup and narrating the shows and to give demonstration rides to civilians during the Friday practice shows.
I don't know who the civilian passenger is but perhaps someone knows who it is. Perhaps a local TV or radio personality.
If you are going to the show on Milwaukee's lakefront Saturday or Sunday a nice goal would be a picture of the close overlapping diamond formation which is a spectacular trademark of the Blue Angels.

This is a promotional movie still from my recent mini-documentary about my search for a rare piece of lost media -- an unusual Subway commercial from the 1990s! To hopefully conjure up peoples' memories of this missing commercial, I've reenacted it with LEGO puppets in my documentary. The puppets use my traditional bobble head design on minifigure bodies, similar to in my LEGO Alice in Wonderland project.
Watch the full video in context: www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9reMUXuC8Y
Background:
Back in the mid-1990s, our local TV stations would broadcast a bizarre and confusing commercial advertisement for the sandwich franchise Subway – a commercial with questionable biblical and spiritual overtones. This commercial used low-quality video effects and laughable amateur actors, despite Subway being a ubiquitous national food franchise. The absurdity of this strange commercial would often be the subject of ridicule and mockery among my friends and family.
Sadly, this unusual commercial has been lost to time, and I can find no record of it ever existing. However, with my photographic memory I’ve actually reenacted the synopsis of this commercial with the use of LEGO puppets and stop-motion animation!
Because of how weird and cheap the lost commercial was, it’s my logical deduction that it wasn’t a nationally-broadcasted commercial, but rather a local ad for an independent Subway franchise in our area (central Pennsylvania). With that said, I’ve found no record of it online, since it clearly didn’t have the national attention of regular Subway commercials.
Please share that video so that we can get more attention and maybe locate the actual footage. Perhaps someone with VHS tapes of old local commercials might have this lost commercial on it. Maybe an employee of Subway might be able to dig into their company’s archives and explain the history behind this commercial. Or maybe even a cast/crew member of the commercial’s production team could stumble upon this YouTube video and shed some light on this mystery once and for all.

Colorado Springs, CO - The city sets up an ice-skating rink downtown during the winter months. This year you need reservations so they can control the number of people due to the COVID- 19 restrictions. It was nice to see people out and about and enjoying the amazing weather even with the regulations.
I had to get special permission to take pictures here, it had nothing to do with COVID it's a city rule. Even if the local TV station wanted to take pictures or videos they would have to get permission. The city was nice about it but still, some rules leave me scratching my head in confusion.
I have no idea what was being discussed, but I'll check with Gene Hackman who was recording this private "conversation." He must have been working as an NSA spook. Apple alert! I turned again and Hackman was gone! Spooky! Unfortunately, my telephoto zoom did not have a zoom microphone. This looks like a pretty "cold" scene for some cold, perhaps hurtful Trump-like words. A record day for the Kochistan Valley today. Days like this can turn into no jacket days. We were locked into winter, horrors. I needed a stroll on a better weather day to the ponds. This is probably stocked with "game" fish to keep summertime West Nile down. The West Nile larva are not doing well now. Trump Arab alert. Trump needs more lerts but apparently won't find them in England, according to polls. The quality trout, below, are well up the creek for a wildly interactive and outstanding fishing experience.
My walk was around Golden's ponds (gravel pits) on an early February day in Kochistan. Normally February is usually pittsville here but now the Bros. have turned it into an early spring. Last year inaugurated a series of world record setting hot months here in Kochistan. It will be a sadder statistic when two months are in the Koch's purse. The St. Vrain river trickles by over the bank. I wonder how many record setting warm months are ahead in 2016, year of the crash. I checked out the day and it's later February. Our range was 31 to 75 today.
The theme has returned to winter's snow and ice. I would not count on the ice being very thick but I would count on local TV news calling a fall from the couple an "accident" should they decide to test the ice. Darwin needs converts. Go figure. It seems that I didn't fall in, but then I didn't walk out on the ice. I made my way past this fishing dock and dandy chilly composition. A shot like this always leaves questions. This scene will be different in a couple of months; the paths WILL be mud. I held off editing winter shots but finally caught a few snaps although pretty busy. I kept the sky from this shot, the day was pretty bright.
I don't know who these people are, but it seems they are news anchors or stars of a local TV show. They were both exceptionally tall and thin and personable. Others in the crowd recognized them and were clamoring to take selfies with them. In front of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Easter, NYC -- April 21, 2019

I saw a story on potholes on local TV news tonight. They got some shots on the same road where I was searching on Saturday, and they also found another big hole that I missed. So I jumped right in the car and went to that location, and collected some more finds. I didn't get the same caps shown in their clips, so someone must have cleaned up once before I got there, and then more caps fell off. I'll post the link to the news segment in the first comment below...I'm sure you guys will like it.

I was out with my family on Sunday to do some hiking on the Bruce Trail and, during the drive back to Toronto, we saw this new Porsche 918 Spyder at a gas station in Caledon. As we approached on the highway, there was a lot of smoke - and sparks were flying from underneath the chassis. Then poof! - it exploded into a raging inferno just as we drove by.
So, having my camera with me (and while my wife was screaming, "get back in the car, you idiot!"), I got some shots and later, some video. If you notice, I'm a fair distance away for the video part. Um ..., that's (obviously) because there's a car on fire in front of gasoline tanks. I didn't really have a huge desire to make the last photo I ever take a big black mushroom cloud.
Putting together this short video was just for fun, but I occasionally submit images and footage to the local media if I come across something newsworthy by accident. Unfortunately, in this case, the weekend papers had already gone to press by 7:30pm and I got scooped for the local TV news by some guy with an iPhone - who probably already had his video emailed while I was still shooting.
And, oh yeah, I'm not exaggerating. The Porsche 918, a new hybrid gas/electric with a monstrous 800 horsepower, really does cost nearly a million dollars (CAN$) - which I'm sure makes this the most expensive bonfire I've ever photographed! :-)
Update: Just found out the car belonged to Toronto multi-millionaire financier and new member of CBC's Dragon's Den, Michael Wekerle. I doubt he's terribly concerned. $940,000 (CAN) is just pocket change for him.

October 27th. 2018 near my small village in the western part of Germany. This panorama shows more than 200 people, all dressed in white overalls, and tried to conquer a private property. The police stop them before the lawn and kettle them for identity verification. A team of the local TV and a lot of press guys documented this action.
The farmer, who owned the field of action was not happy about it. The new seed was almost destroyed.
Canada Day, July 1, celebrates 150 years today. I took this photo in 2007 on one of my business trips to Ottawa, Ontario. A beautiful building located just above the Ottawa river. My work took me to Ottawa (Kanata actually) from New Jersey almost every week for five days for about 3 1/2 years. A beautiful city with lots going on especially in the summer time. There will be lots going on on this Canada Day. The blip in the sky is a hot air balloon sponsored by a local TV channel.
Happy Canada Day to all my friends up north.

I don’t have rights of this picture. But to make the story more interesting it needs good visual. I don't think my white sandy beach shot matches the stories/ infos I'd like to share this time. But , I will take this down if I received complaint from the copyright owner. I suspect this shot must be from a movie set. I have seen various films this actor was in . I got this photo from the same news site at link below . I don't like my photo stream , but I don't think the links about Alien stories are compatible if I post accompanying picture of a nice white sand beach lined with palm trees . I could illustrate a bit but that takes so much of my time, I like something quick and no sweat for this time being. I may some imaginative drawings but that'll be at later time.

Stories about Aliens living among us or their offspring of hybrids are not way in contrast from Biblical teachings. In fact they are the reason of the Biblical flood, as the pure human genetics was in real danger during those days before the flood. Genesis 6 speaks about the Angelic watchers finding human women beautiful and had intercourse with them, and having babies with women. The Apocrypha book of Enoch has more the the story of Genesis 6. No wonder these descriptive Apocrypha books were removed from the Bible. Guess what, because it exposes the lies and deception through the ages .
Ever thought why some old historic churches and buildings across Europe and UK have scary looking gargoyles in their architectures ? You think those are heavenly beings ? Those gargoyles look like demons. I even wonder why even statues across are of the gods and goddess and never any characters of the Bible. I have no doubt they all point back to the hybrids . It all spread across the world, and across cultures.
The Bible says "they are people of reknown " , they are mighty men. My thoughts are , in fact very intelligent , perhaps even good looking of today's standards, very wealthy.
I'm personally convinced the Anti- Christ whoever he is, is a hybridized being, not a full human DNA being.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My imaginations of the Armageddon isn't about human flesh and blood soldiers shooting each other, few nukes blowing, but it's more than that. It's like war of the worlds , a cosmic war with Alien beings of Lucifer including the earthly hybrid camp against Almighty creator God and human redeemed soldiers in glorified bodies, call them aliens as well, whatever .... The Bible said if you are with the Lord and living with the Lord Jesus, you are not of this world, and should not set our hearts of this world. And true, as we know the Lord we should not conform to the ways of this world, as we are aliens of this world.
As knowing more the Lord Jesus, I'm growingly desliking this world and everything in here. Anybody with relationship with God would have look forward to be taken away soon, and me too :) I feel so uneasy and uncomfortable of the idea of parties and jamming around with worldly people, social drinking. Even hearing blasphemies on local TV my spirit boils ! Seeing the explosion of materialism in people, the wags , those who just live for fame and money alone flash on TV often : example like the Kardashians, I get sick of it. The Made in Chelsea , TV series are made role models of children. As if these people live forever , no death, a false notion of life. Most people I see around have no reverence of God of even have slightest idea who God is. Which is exactly the point of Biblical description of our generation today , the last day generation.
While walking around the old Japanese district of Dalian with a photojournalist student buddy Boris, who is carrying out a social documentary project on the area, we noticed something unusual. Old signs appeared to be hanging in the doorways and banners lines some of the streets. Some kind of festival perhaps ? Then we came across a huge lighting rig, of the kind that a Hollywood studio might use when shooting on location. What on earth...? We noticed an area roped off and asked some people what it was all about. "Film something something Olympics something" they replied in a heavy Dalian accent. Not only that but apparently no foreigners were allowed beyond the rope. At least not on that street. Five minutes around the corner we approached from another angle and were met enthusiastically by a young Chinese actress, as eager to practice her English on two foreigners as we were to let her.
Seemed a film called "The One" was getting shot. It will tell the life story of China's first Olympian, a Dalian born sprinter called Liu Changchun. Set in 1932, amid massive internal strife, he rejected the occupying Japanese's orders to run for the puppet state Manchukuo and instead boarded a boat from Shanghai to become the then Republic of China's sole representative in the 1932 LA Olympics. Lensing was being carried out in this district presumably because it is one of the only relics of old Dalian yet to be re-developed. The old shop signs and crowds of extras in period robes completed the effect.
A group of people had now formed around us, questions were getting thrown around, hands were shaken, business cards given, but the rope was still there, and we were still on the wrong side for taking photos. Nothing seemed to be happening anyway, just lots of waiting around. We retreated back to the nearest restaurant and got stuck into beer and kebabs. Boris thought it might be an idea to phone the visiting professor on his photography course, a Dutch photographer and film-maker Pieter. So he too arrived on the scene, prized vintage Leica in hand, just in time for the second round of lamb kebabs. Once all the restaurant staff had been lined up under the bare 100 watt bulbs for head and shoulder portraits and the last of the kebabs had been eaten, off went the Pieter to check out the film set for himself.
Seemingly ropes mean little when you are able to strike up a conversation with the director themselves about the merits of various kinds of lighting equipment and so after being introduced to the director as the "young proteges", we found ourselves in the unusual position of being on a pretty large-scale filmset, during filming, with permission it seemed to take photos as we wished.
This particular scene being shot mainly consisted of a large imposing man in Japanese military uniform getting out of an enormous black car and beating someone to the ground, as ruthless oppressors are want to do. Lots of shouting, lots of elegant Chinese ladies in kimonos and parasols, and lots of smoke. The biggest laugh of the evening probably came when the car door wouldn't open and our Japanese military aggressor started cursing in Chinese.
The next day lots of research was done on-line to fill in the various information gaps. It seems the film is going to be fairly high profile, no mere local TV production. The director is Hou Yong, once time cinematographer for Chinese film-don Zhang Yimou. Hou's second feature as director, after recently directing the Shanghai family drama "Jasmine Women", starring none other than Zhang Ziyi, this will liekly be a feelgood patriotic tale. As such, it will obviously receive the government censors' red stamp of approval without any problems at all, and will likely be released in time for the Beijing Olympics next year. Not only that, but it will be shown to all the foreign athletes.
Amtrak EMD SDP40F 529 at Denver, Colorado, October 13, 1973. Photographer: James C Herold. Scanned from a 35mm Kodachrome slide owned by Digital Rail Artist.
I became a railfan in December, 1970, and was there at the Southern Pacific depot in Tucson at the ripe old age of eleven when my dad took me to see the Amtrak demonstration tour of the United Aircraft Turbo Train.
I was there when Amtrak ordered their first new power, this group of 30 SDP40F's, some of which were assigned to our local Sunset Limited. I was also there when a teenaged friend, quite a bit of an older brother to me, called the local TV stations and gave them a press release about the new power (it wasn't THAT strange, he was a member of the Rail Passenger Association of the Southwest).
I was there when the one station that took notice, KZAZ, that weird local-only channel 11, sent their ace reporter, Lupita Murillo, to interview him. Great footage of the Sunset coming in behind him at the depot, perfect morning light, as she shoved a microphone in his face and asked, "Sir! What are you protesting?"
The look on his young face was priceless - did you even read the press release? "Uh, I'm not protesting anything?" "There you have it! Live from the train station, Lupita Murillo reporting!"
Actually, she went on to become a pretty good local reporter, and my friend became a UP engineer, so it worked out.
When Amtrak bought these units, it was by no means certain that the railroad would survive. It expected a funeral for rail service, not a rebirth. These were freight units, designed to be pawned off on Santa Fe or SP should the need arise.
By the middle of the 1970's, the units became involved in some thirty derailments that were traced back to the trucks and specifically these units coupled to a baggage car. Several railroads banned them, and Amtrak's confidence was shattered. By 1977, when I graduated high school, they were retired. Only one of these units were sold to the Santa Fe, the rest traded in to EMD for F40PH's.
These were a delight to behold. Big, burly, graceful classic EMD cowl units. It was an all too short lifespan, especially considering that Smilin' UP E-units and SP FP7's and F7B's were the mainstay power on the Sunset for so many years under Amtrak.
I truly miss these.
the local tv weatherperson said that this is the full moon closest to the equinox, so i was headed out at this ungodly hour (4am). luckily, i live in a safe suburban town where i can take pics at night. not bad for doing it without a tripod and at the max zoom!!! this is not cropped-- it's at 80x
i'd like to thank cathlon and loopoboy who were my cheering section on the first ones i put up :):)
Couldn't resist shining a light on this. Yesterday nearly 2000 Alaskans turned out in Anchorage for the Hold Palin Accountable Rally, organized by Alaskans for Truth. AKMuckraker has a fantastic account of it on his great new blog, The Mudflats. Here's an excerpt:
I started snapping pictures of signs. There were some really good ones. My favorite? “Hey, Sarah! I can see the end of your political career from my house!” I was cheered. After 20 or 30 minutes of photographing signs, I looked around. I don’t know why I hadn’t noticed, but a massive influx had happened. Both sides of the city block between 9th and 10th Avenue were packed! I went across the street to the opposite corner to get a good shot of everyone, and… I was not alone. Cameras everywhere! Local TV news from every station, the Anchorage Daily News, unmarked video cameras in various sizes, photographers with lenses 2 feet long scurrying around, people with hand-held devices talking to protesters…. It took my breath away. I had to stop what I was doing, and just stand, and look.
I said it after the last rally, and I’ll say it again. This does not happen here.
In his latest post he also embedded an awesome video, made by another blogger, frsbdg, of photos from the rally intercut with pictures of Palin, set to the song Don't Lie, by the Black Eyed Peas. Gotta see it.
LATE UPDATE, HA:
Taken from Mill Mountain of the Roanoke Valley. Shown on local TV WDBJ by Brent Watts for the weather!
My builds got a bit edgier this year, touching on the themes of politics, civil rights, LBGT, tide pods and homelessness - the last of which even landed me a spot on local TV!
I also experimented with a little LEGO puppetry, and continued my primary mission of trolling Star Wars fans ;-). Next year I'm hoping to experiment with some more purely aesthetic/artistic creations, and maybe even productize some of my smaller builds, in addition to churning out more of my signature pop culture trash.
