On Sunday, June 12, about 75-100 members of Erie's LGBT community and their supporters gathered at the Zone Dance Club, 133 W 18th St, Erie PA, to mourn the tragic deaths of 50 people killed in the Orlando Pulse Night Club shooting, considered to be the worst mass shooting in US history.
The event was organized by NW PA Pride Alliance. Speakers included Alex Sphon, president of NW PA Pride Alliance; Rev. Dr. Rich McCarty, senior pastor of Community United Church; Michael Mahler, co-editor of Erie Gay News; and Bob Merski, Erie City Councilmember. Other elected officials attending included Erie County Councilmembers Andre Horton and Jay Breneman.
Coverage was provided by both local TV news crews and also Erie Times News. Photos are by Andrea and Erie Gay News photographer Deb Spilko.
Organizations with representation at the vigil included Community United Church, NW PA Pride Alliance, TransFamily Support Group of NW PA; PFLAG Meadville, Greater Erie Alliance for Equality, Drenched Fur, Zone Dance Club, LBT Women of Erie, Crime Victim Center, Erie Gay News, and Keystone Progress.
One of the past co-owners of Pulse was Erie native Ron Legler, who now lives in the Baltimore area.
The Erie LGBT community extends their deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims of this horrible tragedy.

The SY loco was in charge of a heavy crane lifting concrete beams into position, to strengthen a bridge on the branch to the Zhangxin Mine, Hengshang section of the Jixi Coal Mine Railway. All the top brass turned out, and even the local TV station recorded the unfolding event. Sadly, the steam engine was assisting in it's own demise as the bridge works would enable the line to take the new, heavier diesel locos. Heilongjiang Province, northern China. This is another wet but "cold" scene; who knew this would happen on the same day the witch of the north would deliver the wintry blow to the blowhard's hate campaign. I struggled for a name for this composition but not for long. It seems right! We are locked into winter, horrors I needed a stroll on a day of better weather over the river to the pond south of the river. This is probably stocked with "game" fish to keep summer West Nile down. Trump Arab alert. Trump needs more lerts but apparently won't find them in England, according to polls. The quality trout are well up the creek for an interactive but standing fishing experience.
My walk was to falls at Golden's pond (gravel pit) on a December day in Kochistan..This in a view back on another day of Kochistanish skies. Local TV news will bring weather panics on days like this. This scene will be different in a couple of months.
I held off editing winter shots but finally caught a few snaps although pretty busy. I kept the sky from the shot, the day was pretty bright. Last year inaugurated a series of world record setting hot months here in Kochistan. The color at Golden Ponds is quickly failing for the season. The St. Vrain river trickles by on the left of this shot. This is a shot is south of the central pond at Golden Ponds. Time to point the camera down. I wonder how many record setting warm months are ahead in 2016, year of the crash.

A few weeks ago I auditioned for America's Next Top Model! While waiting in line, for over 7 hours, a local TV station took this photo for a contest to win $500 and a commercial. I would really love the opportunity to be on TV (and I'm broke) so I would love any help I can get. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get called back by the producers but it was fun either way. Thank you all so much for all of your support!

A summer storm and I had my Nikon D40 on my tripod. I just kept snapping pics hoping to capture a lightning strike. I missed plenty but I caught this one. It's like fishing. Wish I had a light-sensitive shutter release to automatically catch the lightning.
This was shot at the grainy but light-sensitive setting of ISO1600.

One comment that I've heard often is "Your photos look like paintings." Thanks very much. I enjoy using colour and editing effects to make my images stand out. At times I go for a natural look but often I'll try to achieve an artistic image using colour among other things.
Nowadays everyone has a cell phone and a camera so my images must be good or I'm done. In other words I use my artistry to make my photos stand out from the crowd. Besides it's a fun hobby and I love showing Ottawa, Canada's Capital City, my home.

The Leeuwarden - Harlingen railway skirts the new sea dike (Keermuur, 2010) of Harlingen (Harns) and the elongated railway terminal station does the same. Two very elegant and steep reinforced concrete foot bridges (2014) cross the railway and enables one to access the Willemshaven.

My walk was around the Golden's pond (gravel pit) south of the Creek on a January day in Kochistan..Unfortunately the trail leads to a closed gate or picking one's way across this stoner's trail. The theme has been water and this fords snow, ice and summer water. I would not count on the ice being very thick but I would count on local TV news calling it an "accident" if you decide to test it. Darwin needs converts. Go figure. It seems that I didn't fall in. I made my way across the trail to avoid retracing my way and saw this minimalist but dandy winter composition when I looked back. A shot like this always leaves questions. This scene will be different in a couple of months.
I held off editing winter shots but finally caught a few snaps although pretty busy. I kept the sky from the shot, the day was pretty bright. Although much of the northern US has already been experiencing cool to cold Autumn weather, down here we remain mired in heat and humidity, ten degrees above normal for this time of year...a local TV weatherman perfectly nailed it by dubbing it 'Aug-tober' weather! A persistent high pressure stationary front will probably give way by mid-month to finally give us some sorely desired relief...until then, we can just dream of Autumn from a distance!
This same builder has already raised several distinctive buildings in the area. On this one they still have to install that front porch light.
Contrast that with the 100+ year old building on the right. New meets old!

The Maine Eastern operated Holiday Trains usually the first 2 weekends in December and one year we donated the train for a one way run from Brunswick to Rockland stopping along the various communitys picking up Christmas Gifts along the way. One year the run included a local celebrity "Togus the Cat. Togus was owned by a local TV Reporter and Togus was part of his reporting team. Well its December 10, 2011 and the Holiday train has just left Wiscasset headed back to Bath, where the journey will start all over again. I would handle the deadhead move back to Rockland after the last trip on Sunday remember that we had light snow falling on the run back to Rockland.
There is no other place in the country where I feel More Canadian than when I am on Parliament Hill. I like the free access allowed to the public on Parliament Hill.
The tours are fun. There is a small old elevator that four at a time can take to go up in the Peace Tower. The clock, the carillon bells and the 360 degree view make it worthwhile.

Merlins are small hawks related to falcons. They pushed the , crow family out of their nest last year....and this year made babies. Three days ago I woke up to a commotion outside. Merlins all over the place whining and wailing and swooping and swerving. Flight training! The 3 kids had left the nest! Ye Olde Maple Tree was their jungle gym. They were thrashing and almost crashing as they tried to perch on twigs.
That same morning, there was an announcement on local tv that a certain area of the Green Mtns was open to hikers again because the falcons had left their nests and were no longer vulnerable to human interference.
Mother Nature's timing amazes me.
And I will be glad to have them move on now. They eat my little bird friends. Truth be told, I shouldn't even have a bird feeder out there.
.....although I read that merlins usually take their prey in flight. That makes me feel only a little better.

PTG ran their third Bulgarian railtour (entitled Magnificent Seven to the Black Sea) featuring some very shiny 87s in May 2010. It featured (in order) 87003, 87020, 87028, 87004, 87008.
On leaving Veliko Turnovo a highlight, for the track scratchers on the tour, was a run up to Gabrovo - a unit only branch.
87004 seen here running round the stock (far right) in Gabrovo station next to the normal sight here - an ex Soviet 32 EMU. This was such a notable event that even the local TV news appeared to film the proceedings!
I did a photo with this same title and purpose on my old stream back in April. Sadly, I have a reason to do another one. This time, it happened just a few miles away from me. I apologize for the length, but this is a critically important issue. Something must be done. Please read.
Fourteen year old Samantha Kelly had just started her freshman year of high school. Out of curiosity, youthful excitement, peer pressure, she had sex with a popular senior boy. That night she confessed the deed to her mother. Initially it seemed only an irresponsible, but consensual indiscretion. However, in Michigan, a 14 year old cannot legally consent to sex. It wasn't long before rape charges were filed against the young man. Samantha's mother paraded her on the local tv news. There she told the reporter that the boy had forced himself on her. Was she pressured to change her story? Regardless, now the whole community knew the intimate details of this teen's private life. Samantha would now face the scrutiny of her family, her neighbors, classmates, and the police.
The whole school was divided. Students wore t-shirts with the boy's picture on them proclaiming his innocence. There was name calling, harassing text messages and Facebook statuses, but it went beyond that to threats of violence and actual violence. Students threw mud at her, made sexual gestures, even hit her. All the while, the case against the young man was progressing. There was no stopping it now. Samantha would be subjected to more questioning, criticism, humiliation. She would be expected to explain the discrepancies in her story. Any adult would wither under such circumstances. To a 14 year old, it must have seemed like the end of the world. Tragically, it was.
Last week, Samantha was scheduled to testify in court. The evening before the hearing, she excused herself from the dinner table and went upstairs to her room. An hour later, her 12 year old brother found her dead. She had hung herself. Written in marker on the wall was her goodbye note - "do you love me now? I have always loved you". The next dat at the hearing, rape charges were dropped.
I want to run through the streets screaming at the top of my lungs. "Wake up people going on about your lives as if everything is fine. What kind of world do we live in? What are we doing to our young people!" I find myself wondering where I was when Samantha crafting the noose. What meaningless self-centered thing was I doing while she was dying? What was going through her mind in those final minutes? Did she have second thoughts, but it was too late? Did she suffer long? I can't even imagine. It is too terrible to even contemplate, but I can't get it out of my head. Some thoughts you just can't turn off.
I couldn't hold back my emotions at work the other day. A co-worker caught me crying at my station and asked what was wrong. I almost made up something, but decided to tell the truth. She looked at me like I was from another planet. Crying over a complete stranger? What is wrong with you? No! What is wrong with you that you can hear a story like that and just move on? How can it not affect you? How can you look at this world and not cry every day?
Samantha was buried today. This whole experience makes me want to live my life differently, to be a better human being. We've all got to move past this indifference for our fellow humans. He's black, she's Muslim, he's a republican, she's an immigrant, he's gay, she's fat. Just stop! We're all people. Let's look out for each other. Where was Samantha's support network? One person could have made all the difference.
I saw an ad for an art exhibit - "Princess Diana, celebrating her life". I guess that's nice, but who will celebrate the life of Samantha Kelly, Phoebe Prince, Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown and countless other teens who committed suicide after enduring endless cruelty? We can all be part of the solution. Start today by remembering those lost. Then start looking out for those who need help. It is not too late for them. I will challenge myself to be a better person. Will you? So I ask you again, who will you save today?
I have tagged some of the people who continually inspire me. You are all amazing. You are my heroes. Please make a commitment to make a difference in someone's life. Forgive me if I have missed anyone.
Favorite #25, 2012: A beauty smiles during Dickens on the Strand, a Victorian Holiday Festival in Galveston, Texas. Sometimes a face stands out in a crowd. Not just because she was so pretty but because she seemed familiar. Did I know her from some where? My friend Joey solved the mystery for me when he identified her as one of our local TV personalities. Now I know why she looked so familiar.

Natascia is stranger n.19 in my "100 Strangers Project". I've met her during a wedding celebration. I was with my camera that day because of taking some pictures of my friend's marriage, and even because i didn't know anybody there... so i could kill time taking some photos around. Natascia was at my table during the lunch at restaurant. Had been a while i couldn't pursue with my project... so when i saw her, i thought she could be another "stranger" to shot! I don't think there's any need to explaine why i choosed her for my #19 stranger... I even said to her that her face was not so new for me... but i couldn't know why! So she said that maybe i saw her on some local tv channel or some event in my zone... because sometimes she works like presenter or hostess, and she also took part at the final stage of Miss Italy in 98'. When i explained to her my project she was happy to contribute with her face! So i took some pictures of her and this one u can see it's my favourite one! She was very confident in front of the camera, and it's easy to understand why... :-) ooooooooook so thank u so much Natascia! even #19 is gone! see u all for #20!!!! ;-)

Flying Blue Angel No. 7 here is most likely Lieutenant Lance Benson, USN (Slot) filling in for Lieutenant Brandon Hempler, USN (Advance Pilot/Narrator).
This is a two-seat McDonnell Douglas F/A-18D-24-MC Hornet (Bureau Number #163468) used for backup and narrating the shows and to give demonstration rides to civilians during the Friday practice shows.
I don't know who the civilian passenger is but perhaps someone knows who it is. Perhaps a local TV or radio personality.
If you are going to the show on Milwaukee's lakefront Saturday or Sunday a nice goal would be a picture of the close overlapping diamond formation which is a spectacular trademark of the Blue Angels.
"Come on, what's taking so long. I walked over here for some attention." I was just walking by. This is one friendly kitty. I quickly obliged my little friend. How could I resist?

This is a promotional movie still from my recent mini-documentary about my search for a rare piece of lost media -- an unusual Subway commercial from the 1990s! To hopefully conjure up peoples' memories of this missing commercial, I've reenacted it with LEGO puppets in my documentary. The puppets use my traditional bobble head design on minifigure bodies, similar to in my LEGO Alice in Wonderland project.

Background:
Back in the mid-1990s, our local TV stations would broadcast a bizarre and confusing commercial advertisement for the sandwich franchise Subway – a commercial with questionable biblical and spiritual overtones. This commercial used low-quality video effects and laughable amateur actors, despite Subway being a ubiquitous national food franchise. The absurdity of this strange commercial would often be the subject of ridicule and mockery among my friends and family.
Sadly, this unusual commercial has been lost to time, and I can find no record of it ever existing. However, with my photographic memory I’ve actually reenacted the synopsis of this commercial with the use of LEGO puppets and stop-motion animation!
Because of how weird and cheap the lost commercial was, it’s my logical deduction that it wasn’t a nationally-broadcasted commercial, but rather a local ad for an independent Subway franchise in our area (central Pennsylvania). With that said, I’ve found no record of it online, since it clearly didn’t have the national attention of regular Subway commercials.
Please share that video so that we can get more attention and maybe locate the actual footage. Perhaps someone with VHS tapes of old local commercials might have this lost commercial on it. Maybe an employee of Subway might be able to dig into their company’s archives and explain the history behind this commercial. Or maybe even a cast/crew member of the commercial’s production team could stumble upon this YouTube video and shed some light on this mystery once and for all.
