My happy place is my back porch, I love to sit here in the evenings, ipad, reading, glass of wine. AHHHH.. I'm Sad LOAD is coming to a close, I rocked 32 LO's this month.. a record for me!

The Bugis Schooners were often loaded with bags of concrete or Rice. The work is back breaking, but this worker was happy to see us and gave us a big smile. The guys loading the concrete bags would carry two 50kg bags on their shoulders as they walked up the gangplank to load the boats.

My Roommate (Gabe Davis) and I planned on going on a motorcycle trip to Las Vegas, down to LA and then back home to Salem Oregon. On the way to Vegas we were heading over the pass and got hit with what seemed like a blizzard, Gabe lost control of his bike and shortly after I lost control of mine. We both came out ok but our bike had to much damage to continue. Lucky for us our friend brad came to the rescue and drove almost 8 hours to come get us. This is when we were loading up in town just about to head out

One afternoon, armed with a stack of freshly printed words of wisdom & a couple rolls of washi tape, I decorated the main wall at the top of the stairs. "Load tube three, Mk 14!"
Not that a Mark 14 torpedo would have ever been used in these particular tubes. These are the two starboard torpedo tubes from the U.S.S Tecumseh, SSBN 628. Tecumseh was a missile carrying submarine, part of the '41 For Freedom.' The Mk 14 torpedo was a WWII torpedo, when, after they worked out the glitches in the exploder assembly, because a highly successful design and sent hundreds of thousands of tons of enemy shipping to the bottom during the war.

Understanding Load Sway and Tips To Prevent It!
When an object is hung from the hook of an overhead crane, it exhibits a natural swing similar to a pendulum swing, when the trolley starts moving or comes to a halt. This is what we term as load sway. Since a long time, crane operators have tried minimising load sway by timing crane movement in a strategic manner. The most common method to control load sway is to make sure that the crane is centred over the load. However, there are chances that the load will still swing before it finally settles down, thereby giving the crane owner no other option than to wait for the load to settle down by itself.

Found this crazy long load in Fort Nelson, BC. I'm not sure I would want to be the rear driver on the Alaska Highway in the winter. Crazy job!

Back after a bit of a hiatus. I'm selling my house this month and sigh had to do some cleaning and packing and organizing. But for now that's done, yay!, and I can get back to scrapping!
I couldn't do all black and white, needed some colour in there. It was fun taking these two photos taken 5 years apart and editing them the same way. My husband is such a fun dad!
