Same title, same kind of car, same location, same day of the week and similar shot as one from 2012. Oh, car week. Predictable yet unpredictable.

for the larger the load,

the greater will be the profit upon profit."

Hampton Load Station featuring Ivatt 41312. One favourite loco's to visit SVR in resent years. (MF/SVR Charter 21/3/2017)

During my 2017 visit back home to Colorado I had some time to spend along the Jointline. It had been a number of years since I had visited and I definitely noticed some changes. Such as this bridge across the tracks in Sedalia, a nice addition for sure. BNSF coal loads climb towards the summit of the Palmer Divide at Palmer Lake. The SD70Ace was a nice bonus.

A pair of 4300 AC44C6M rebuilds are backing up a coal train to finish loading at Dan’s Branch Mine in Eckman, WV just off of the Pokey main.

R276 runs around its empties at Leatherwood prior to loading.

CSX R202 begins loading its 75-car train with Greenbrier Smokeless Coal in Anjean, WV. This loadout only loads a handful of trains every year, so this train was tied down for 3 days before the mine had enough coal to load all 75 cars.

The mechanical loaders make short work of filling up 66006 at Cwmbargoed, the train will later work out as 6C94 15:45 Cwmbargoed Opencast Colliery to Margam Terminal Complex.

CP's Fording River Sub was built for one purpose, to move coal from Fording Coal's three mines to export market. The 32 Mile line, north of Sparwwod BC sees multiple unit coal trains each and every day.

On a warm August afternoon, a southbound loaded train from the Fording Mine passes a counterpart that is finishing loading at the Elkview Mine.

CSX C623, rounds the curve at Pineville, KY with Creech mine run. There wye on the straight to Straight Creek Branch has recently become active with Wen Lar starting to load trains again.

Indiana Railroad's Bear Run Mine to Hoosier Energy Merom Powerplant coal loads roll downgrade out of Sullivan, Indiana with a pair of the railroad's "new" SD70Ms on the point. After some low water trouble with the lead locomotive between Sullivan & Duggar, Engineer Chris Vasen now has the train rolling again only a few miles from spotting the train at the plant.

I loved the dark burgundy section of this tunnel. Being lucky enough to catch the light trail passing through the centre of the frame really adds to it too (and that red glow reflection on the poster!).

Moments prior I had been taking shots just before the tunnel. A couple of guys wandered past and stopped. My heart sank- they were going to engage us in conversation. I always feel so, so awkward as I really just want to take my photographs and be left alone. They were perfectly nice but there were loads of questions about what Michael and I were doing. Anxiety levels increased, embarrassment increased. Argh.

One of my favorite lakers, the steamer Wilfred Sykes, loads at CN Dock 6 as a hill job spots cars for dumping.

Union Pacific SD40-2 No. 3661 leads a 40-car Malad Local past an old sugar beet loader at Ford siding west of Bear River City, Utah on Aug. 3, 1993.

CN C40-8 2029 leads hot ore loads South through Mountain Iron, MN.

Four of BMLP's E60s slowly inch a coal train through the loadout silo of the Peabody Kayenta mine. After the 1-2 hour loading process the train will return to Page, where the coal will eventually fuel the Navajo Generating Station which has since shut down. This picture was taken on the first of two trips I made to the line after three announcement they would be shutting down the plant and railroad by 2020.

Slogging away from a large spring thunderstorm we find CN taconite loads from the Fairlane plant in Forbes, Minnesota bound for Proctor and the Duluth docks on the way south behind three different SD40's -2 or -3 which ever you prefer. I kept missing the lightning bolts, but just as well I was glad I stayed with this guy and had sun all the way south and did not stay north and get soaked for 4 hours of rain . . .

CLF2, 44223, C501 and CLF1 load on the "main line" loader at The Rock ABA site. Once a few passing trains go through on the main line about 1km behind this the train will reverse back to the main line and then commence it's run south to Melbourne's Appleton Dock for unloading.

Two different versions of SD70's howl up Logan Hill with loaded hoppers. In the background are two Union Pacific empties snaking north around Antelope Mine on the right.

The other day I uploaded a long, wide load on the Leichhardt Highway between Moura and Wandoan in Queensland. Well, there were two loads and here is the second. This one was actually wider than the other, and if you look closely for the flags that distinguish the outside edges of the load, you will see that there is very little room left on the road. For this one, we were over as far as we could get and we still saw the load sweep past my nose!
