I was on a business trip in Zambia, without my camera, but with my iPhone.

I love to walk around in African towns and markets to take photos of the unique atmosphere and vibrancy. As a passenger in a car for a lot of the time, I could not resist capturing some images, often traveling at speed and with surprising success.

Koi Pond at Franciscan Monastery ...a favorite place I go for solitude.

The Marowijne River (Maroni in French) is the border river between Suriname and French Guyana. Albina is the town at the Suriname side. At the other side of the river is Saint Laurent du Maroni.

When the trigger is pulled, the flint falls foward, striking sparks against the metal plate of the frizzen; the sparks fall into the priming pan, lighting up the powder there, and sending a flame down a narrow channel into the charge at the base of the gun's barrel.

Practice with a replica 19th-century flintlock rifle.

An abandoned slaughterhouse. One of the most incredible places I have explored. Still looking up the history of this place.

12/6/2009. NS N10 heads north on the main past Maidsville Yard. Maidsville was once a bustling location on the Monongahela. With a switcher working both ends of the yard and many extras and turns originating and terminating here, it was one the MGA's busiest locations. Now Maidsville is home to crosstie loading and frac sand unloading.

This was a great composition to get a good perspective shot, plus the coloring and vertical lines are cool too.

Journaling:

There is so much greenery wherever you look! I felt surrounded by my favorite color! I loved all the textures in the foliage. It was interesting to note that our houseplants are a version of their large trees....

The gun is horizontal, the breech is open, and the spoon has been lowered into the breech, for the shell to be rammed home.
