This lizard was sitting on top of a large rock next to the path and energetically bobbed at us when we got too close. I have to admire his moxie. Taken at Walker Canyon in Riverside County, LA, while I was ther for the superbloom.

Another unhappy lizard shot...

I think that the most enjoyable part about nature is the fact that you always discover something new, if you take the time to look. In this case, I found this cool little lizard sunning on a rock. He was pretty brazen, and let me get right up to my minimum focusing distance from him. Since I know nothing about lizards, I went ahead and Googled him, discovering that he is a Western Fence Lizard. That's just really cool; now, I know a little more about the world around me.

The species of this lizard is unknown, but from the picture it can be assumed that this lizard lives low to the ground in the mountains. it was hard to spot at first with how well it camouflaged itself on this rock. this lizard is coldblooded, so it is probably sitting on this rock to sunbathe and stay warm.
